Pet Shop Boys and Years & Years performing at Brighton Pride this year

Over the past few years Brighton Pride has welcomed some massive music names to perform on the main stage in Preston Park and this year looks like being the biggest and best yet. Last week they announced that the Pet Shop Boys were headlining and now they have added the sensational Years & Years to the line up. Dave Cross has a look at these two mega bands who have both mixed LGBT values with sparkling pop music.

We love Brighton Pride. The whole weekend and the build up is always fantastic and right at the beating heart of the festival is the main stage in Preston Park.

Over the past few years the team have welcomed some amazing acts to the stage including Carly Rae Jepsen, Sister Sledge, The Human League, Alison Moyet, Katy B, Alesha Dixon and many more. 2017 is already shaping up to be a standout year and this week the Pride team have confirmed that one of the UK’s best electronic pop bands, Years & Years will be playing an exclusive festival set in Preston Park.

Fronted by the charismatic Olly Alexander, the award-winning band have played sellout shows across the world. Their debut album Communion soared to number one and has sold over one million copies in the UK featuring the smash hits singles King and Shine. Olly Alexander has used his fame to promote LGBT issues including safer sex, HIV testing and anti bullying initiatives. He has also spoken openly about his own struggles with depression and anxiety from a young age.

Headlining the main stage will be the legendary Pet Shop Boys, who will be bringing their current Super Tour to Preston Park. Few bands have been as successful and influential as the Pet Shop Boys over the past 30 years. Multi-platinum albums, sellout tours and classic pop singles including West End Girls, It’s A Sin, What Have I Done to Deserve This?, Heart, Always on My Mind, Rent, Go West, Left to my Own Devices and many more make them a truly iconic British band.

This is only the start of this year’s line up; you can expect more pop acts, fabulous hosts and DJs to be announced over the next few months. We recommend getting your advance tickets right now from the website.
