Drag Idol Reporter: Central Station Sunday 23rd April

By Dave Cross

Drag Idol 2017 has well and truly started with many of the 20 venues across the UK beginning their heats last and this week.

Drag Idol Reporter was at Central Station last Sunday night for their debut heat of this year’s contest. Hosted by the tasty Victoria Sponge, the Kings Cross regulars were treated to five totally different acts covering many aspects of gay cabaret, from the bearded and full length gown of stand up comedian Wayne Carter and the T-Rex singing Trannysaurus Rex to the more traditional drag of Proud Mary.

In the end the judges – Dusty Springs, Chamonix Aspen and Boyz’ Dave Cross – picked rock ‘n’ roll singer Polly Hardon as winner and cute vocalist Oliver Webber as runner up. Central’s heats are every Sunday from now until the end of May.

Also opening their 2017 accounts last week were Admiral Duncan and Halfway II Heaven, with the RVT and Two Brewers coming up in the next few days. Plus this Saturday (29 Apr) it’s the Heat Final at the Victoria in Walthamstow, and next week Her Upstairs and the Old Ship join the race. And across the UK many venues have already started their heats – download the brilliant new Drag Idol app and you can get up-to-date results and information. Details are on the Drag Idol website.
