It’s that time of year again – Drag Idol 2017 is on! The UK’s biggest cabaret talent contest is happening in 20 venues in London and across the UK – a couple have already started their heats but most venues, including some key ones in London, start next week and run through May. Here’s a list of those heats, plus we hear from this year’s hosts, Crystal D’Canter and Kelly Mild, and find out about an extra special part of this year’s prize for the winner.
Crystal D’Canter
“The aim of Drag Idol is to showcase the best new talent out there and give it exposure on the scene. Part of the amazing prize is a gig in every venue taking part, so we are looking for someone with the diversity to go across all venues. To those entering, my advice is to get out there, have fun and be true to yourself. Take on board the judges’ critiques, but at the same time don’t be ruled by it, and most of all the Drag Idol contestants and hosts become one big family; respect that, be nice and you’ll do just fine.”
Kelly Mild
“I’m full of nervous excitement at this point. We have no idea what this year’s contestants will bring to the table. My advice to them is to stay true yourself and know your set inside out and you can’t go far wrong.”
Drag Idol teams up with Italy Gay Travels
This year Drag Idol has teamed up with exciting holiday company Italy Gay Travels, who are presenting the first ever Italy Gay Summer Pride this year from 21 – 25 September in the beautiful Bay of Gallipoli. This four-day beach adventure in this glorious resort will feature huge parties with DJs and cabaret, including the winner of this year’s Drag Idol. Yep, this year’s champ will get two free tickets, flights and accommodation to this event, and will be one of the star performers.
