Fun in the Spanish sun

Along with WorldPride taking place in capital city Madrid this summer, Spain hosts a number of other superb Prides for you to sink your teeth into. Here are three of the best.

Sitges Gay Pride

A short train ride from Barcelona, Sitges will host its 8th annual Gay Pride from Thursday 9 June until Monday 12 June. With more than 25 bars in the town, stunning seafront restaurants, and miles and miles of beautiful beaches, Sitges offers a unique Pride experience!

The highlight of Sitges Gay Pride is the Pride Parade, which will run on Sunday 11 June between 5pm and 7pm. Expect a stream of colourful floats, performers and dancers to make its way along the seafront from the top of Kansas restaurant to the church before making its way back again.

Sitges also boasts its own Gay Pride Village – a custom built mini village complete with food stands, bars and a huge stage where all of the main acts perform each night. For a day-by-day programme of shows taking place in the Gay Village over Pride, visit the website below.

Pride Barcelona

For its 10th anniversary this year, Pride Barcelona will be hosting a Pride to remember! One of the most popular Pride celebrations in Europe, Pride Barcelona 2017 comes loaded with parties.

Festivities are focused mainly in two areas: Moll de la Fusta, near the port, hosts the Village – the epicentre of the celebration – which will feature activities including high heel races and the Miss Drag Queen gala; Gaixample, Barcelona’s gay district, will host Street Pride, a lively event that will also feature special performances.

The Parade takes place on Saturday 8 July from 5pm and will make its way down Avinguda del Paral•lel to Moll de la Fusta, the location of the Village and main stage.

Benidorm Pride

Benidorm’s seventh Pride event will take place this year from 4 to 10 September, with the Big Parade taking place on Saturday 9 September from 4pm.

With a week-long series of outrageous events leading up to the Playa Levante big parade and main stage open air party, visitors can expect an exciting week in the Spanish resort that never sleeps.

LGBT revellers can visit up to 30 small but hugely friendly gay bars and eateries all just a hop and a skip from each other. When the sun is up, head for one of the three golden beaches that wrap themselves around the Old Town; at night, check out the resort’s fantastic nightlife circuit, which showcases a fantastic range of amazing local talent plus special guest artists.
