You’ll be surrounded by hot and frisky bears while dynamite DJ duo the Hoxton Whores join the gang for more pumping house madness.
Against the Law
Against the Law is the powerful new BBC film screened to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality. Based on the book by Peter Wildeblood and starring Daniel Mays and Mark Gatiss it tells the story of Wildeblood and the chain of events including the infamous Montagu trial, when he was convicted for 18 months for homosexual offences, to the eventual Sexual Offences Act being passed more than 10 years later. It’s a gripping, well made drama complete with many testimonies from people who lived through it. It’s being shown on BBC Two on Wednesday (26 Jul) at 9pm and will be available on the BBC iPlayer after.
Your weekend at the RVT
It’s another cracking weekend at the RVT starting on Thursday (27 Jul) with the Drag Roast of Mary Mac raising money for the THT. Friday sees the Push the Button team holding their second Minogue Referendum, which means loads of both Kylie and Dannii all night long. Saturday is all about Duckie and then Mary’s back for more laughs and great music at Sunday Social.
She’s upgrade weekend
She Soho is London’s only dedicated lesbian venue and is located at 23a Old Compton Street, just under Ku Soho. This weekend it re-opens following a complete and rather gorgeous re-furbishment. On Friday (29 Jul) it’s open from 4pm to 3pm with DJs Elle and Amy Alexandre and on Saturday from midday with a free glass of bubbly for everyone before 4pm and DJs Charlez and Kerol Garcia.
Brewers Tea Dance fundraiser for Food Chain
This Sunday (30 Jul) from 3pm the gorgeous Rose Garden is hosting a special Tea Dance at the Two Brewers. There will be china cups, tea trolleys, cucumber sandwiches, scones and jam… and then you can dance off the calories with an afternoon of live entertainment and the whole thing is raising cash for the Food Chain. It’s just £3 entry on the door, food and drinks not included.
It’s Disney Bitch at Her Upstairs
They do love a good theme night at Her Upstairs and this Friday (28 Jul) it’s the mother of all themes when Meth and the gang present It’s Disney Bitch. You can expect a gaggle of queens and villains delivered by the lady M plus Cheryl Hole, Ruby Wednesday, Mynxie Monroe and Lasana Shabazz and it’s all followed by Queer Bash at Them Downstairs.
Polari announce their 2017 shortlist
The ever shy and retiring Paul Burston is back this Monday (31 Jul) for the latest Polari at the Royal Festival Hall from 7pm.
Paul will be revealing this year’s short list for the Polari First Book Prize 2017 and they have a fantastic line-up including Alys Fowler, James Maker, Joelle Taylor, Rosie Wilby and James Wharton. Tickets from southbankcentre.co.uk.
LGBT tour of V&A
The Victoria and Albert Museum is one of our favourite places in London and this Saturday (29 Jul) they have one of their popular free LGBT tours. Starting at 4pm at the Grand Entrance, this one hour tour explores gender and sexual identities through a selection of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer related objects in the V&A’s rich collections.
Briefs: Close Encounters
Briefs, the hottest all male burlesque group on Earth are back at Underbelly on the Southbank with their 2017 show, Close Encounters. Fighting Proud at LSE
This Thursday (27 Jul) the decriminalisation anniversary, Stephen Bourne author of Fighting Proud, the untold story of the gay men who served in two World Wars, will be giving a talk and answering questions at the London School of Economics, WC2 from 6.30pm.
