Eating Out: review of The Galley, Islington by Stephen Vowles

Upper Street in Islington is renowed for offering some of the most spectacular and varied places to eat and one of the most visited establishments is The Galley at 105-106 Upper Street. Founded by brother and sister team Marcel Grzyb and Oriona Robb, their love of food and cookery with an exceptional sense of style results in food served with both passion and panache.

This cuisine is to be frank unique and extremely scrumptious. I opted for the venison tartar and the Dover sole. The quality of the food is superb and the fact that all the dishes have a contemporary flare to them supported  by the fact that global influences and seasonal ingredients are very much in evidence made for a pure stimulation of the taste buds that has not been bettered in recent months.  If you are partial to oysters – and like me adore them – they are served at the Galley in various sauces and are a wonderful speciality of the house.

This is a stunning place to wine and dine and comes highly recommended. I’m also a great lover of red wine and their house red is a Shiraz called Heraldique, hugely quaffable and very smooth.
