Holding The Man special at ATS
Holding The Man is the beautiful play currently on at the award-winning Above The Stag Theatre in Vauxhall. It’s based on the memoirs of Timothy Conigrave, who is also the lead character in the play. It tells the story of his relationship with John from their meeting until John’s AIDs related death. Next Wednesday (18 Oct) is the anniversary of Tim’s death and to mark this Above The Stag is hosting a special post-show discussion hosted by Michael Cashman about the issues raised in this moving play. National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2017
National Hate Crime Awareness Week, organised by 17-24-30 in partnership with Stop Hate UK, is a week of events happening all across the UK from Tuesday 10 to 17 October. One of the highlights is the Act of Hope and Remembrance taking place at St Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday (15 Oct) at 6pm. Battle of the Bars is back
If you love to get up on stage and belt out I Will Survive (and who doesn’t?) and would like to win £2,000 (and who wouldn’t?), then you’ll be thrilled to know that the Battle of the Bars karaoke competition is back in November. There are heats at some of our favourite bars including the Two Brewers, Halfway II Heaven, Admiral Duncan, the Kings Arms and more with the grand final in December at the Brewers. If you’ve been clubbing in the past 20 years in London you will have seen some of the amazing club production designed and made by Mark McKenzie, known to everyone as Edna. Now Mark has pulled together a collection of his distinctive pop art decor for an exhibition at Stour Road, Fish Island, Hackney Wick,E3. Made by Edna will include work seen in Trade, Fabric, Ministry of Sound, Egg and more. The exhibition runs from next Friday (20 Oct); details at smokehousegallery.org.
Quant Honour at the Finborough Theatre
Quaint Honour is a play set in a boys boarding school in the late 1950s. Homosexuality in the UK is illegal, but behind closed doors and behind the back of the Headmaster, gay sexual activity between the students is rife. Chic and Chaka Khan
On Friday 27 October BluesFest 2017 presents a very special concert at the O2 arena by dance music legends Chic featuring Nile Rogers. Chic wrote and produced hits for Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Madonna, Debbie Harry, Duran Duran and more, plus they had their own classics such as Good Times and Le Freak.
