If We Got Some More Cocaine I Could Show You How I Love You at the Vault Festival: Review by Stephen Vowles

Seldom does a play grip you from the start but with John O’Donovan’s play this is certainly so. Josh Williams and Alan McMahon play the roles of Casey and Mikey with real conviction. They ricochet off each other with well balanced performances which are both intimate and comic; they comment on social issues and the upbringing that shaped them. The action takes place on the roof of Casey’s house after a botched robbery at a local petrol station where whilst waiting for the scene to become clear – and hopefully safe – the two discuss their friendship. Here, O’ Donovan is brilliant about their sexuality. The fact that they are lovers is so underplayed until as the play comes to its end he weaves into this razor sharp script, the power and the effect that self sacrifice has on any situation you could find yourself in. Totally captivating, contemporary theatre, a wonderful combination of raucous and romance.
