Seven Days: Ku Bar, The RVT, XXL, Her Upstairs, White Swan and more

Ku Bar can’t wait for the weekend to begin

Your weekend kicks off early at Ku Bar each and every Thursday with sizzling house music down in the Klub from the Sexshooters and Nieko. Expect hot boys, cold drinks and dancefloor shenanigans from 10pm until 3am. The fun continues over the rest of the weekend too, with more of Ku’s residents DJs turning choons down in the Klub on Friday and Saturday, while the ground floor main bar upstairs serves as one of the best places we know for pre-clubbing evening warm up drinks.

Boyz Award winners galore at Sunday Social 

International superstar and RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 queen Charlie Hides is back at the RVT this Sunday for another cracking Sunday Social from 3pm. Fresh from his epic win at last week’s Boyz Awards (Charlie won Best Cabaret Act for the third consecutive year), Charlie hits the stage at 5.30pm with his performance sandwiched between music from resident DJs Liam Chaplin, Simon Le Vans and Sean Sirrs. Oh, and the RVT won Best Cabaret Venue too – hurrah!

Friday night fever at the Two Brewers

This Friday (2 Mar) at the Two Brewers it’s handbags at dawn (well, 9pm) when the Lip Sync War Semi Final hits the stage for another mega mime showdown. Expect death drops, attitude, sass and much more besides. And if that wasn’t enough, the fun continues with Ruggercub, the super-fun night from the Kings Cross Steelers rugby club. Drag terrorist Rose Garden hits the stage plus DJs Demon and Phil Marriott serve the hits thick and fast.

XXL St David’s Day

Attention, calling all Welsh hotties and their admirers: XXL is hosting its St David’s Day party at Pulse this Saturday (3 Mar) from 10pm. It’s going to be a night packed with some of the finest Welsh meat the capital has to offer plus music from residents Paul Morrell, Alex Logan, David Robson and Joe Egg. Even gay former Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas has been known to hit the club for a pint and a scrum of his own on the dancefloor…

Her Upstairs

Cool Camden queer space Her Upstairs kicks your weekend with a huge Friday night on 2 March. Meth hosts FML with special guest LoUis CYfer and resident comic Sister Fibrosis from 9pm, and that’s followed by another Bombshell on the dancefloor starring Cheryl Hole, Lady Lloyd and Tasty Tim. And then on Saturday it’s Myra DuBois’ Big Night Out from 8pm where entry’s just a fiver, followed by Girl Talk in Them Downstairs hosted by Tete Bang.

The Old Ship

Limehouse boozer the Old Ship welcomes two cabaret pros to the stage this weekend. On Saturday (3 Mar) Brighton babe Dave Lynn entertains the masses from 9.30pm, while on Sunday ‘the voice of a thousand fags’ Mrs Moore takes you on a musical journey and ends the weekend in style.

Your White Swan weekend

Those Limehouse lovelies at the White Swan have two days of club classics and late night dancing for you this weekend. On Friday DJ Aaran Bader plays some of the best club classics around while the following night DJ FKA serves  up chart hits and house remixes. Both nights are open from 8pm until 4am.

Don’t miss the Madonna Fan Party

This Saturday (3 Mar) sees the 29th Madonna Fan Party and this year it will be celebrating 20 years since the release of the album Ray of Light. It’s taking place from 2.30pm until 10pm at G-A-Y Late, will be packed with the queen of pop’s music and super fans, and best of all it’s free entry.

Manchester’s calling 

One of the biggest nights out in Manchester has to be Saturday nights at Cruz 101 and this weekend the APEX team kicks off March with a back-to-back special from Gaydio DJs Kriss Herbert and Craig Law. Expect the best in pop, chart and commercial house music from 11pm until 7am plus a crowd of hot Northern lads. Mad for it!

Male-only yoga classes

Fancy learning yoga with a bunch of other gay guys? You’re in luck: the Gay Men’s Dance Company has launched male-only yoga classes to help you improve your flexibility, breathing and balance. The classes take place on Tuesdays from 7.30pm at the Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre. Spaces are limited so book yours ASAP via thegmdc.com.
