Oliver and his team at the Duke of Wellington will be putting a spring into your step this bank holiday weekend as they welcome three brilliant DJs to spin the hits at the Boyz Award-winning Soho hub. We asked Holestar, David Robson and DJ Oli B to give us their top five tracks that they will be spinning this weekend at the Welly.
Holestar
Friday 25 May, 9pm – 1am
Whitney Houston – Love Will Save The Day
Let’s kick the weekend off with some positivity. It’s guaranteed to make you happy. If not, Jaegerbombs are available at the bar.
Man 2 Man & Man Parish – Male Stripper
A naughty stomper, the ultimate darkroom anthem. Take your tops off boys! Just make sure your pits are freshly scrubbed.
Mariah Carey – Fantasy
Mad as a box of frogs and could do with a well fitting bra, but this is a lovely bit of sing-along campery.
Christina Aguilera – Dirrty
Dirty, filthy, nasty. Too dirty to clean my act up. If you ain’t dirty, you ain’t here to party. (Please use a condom)
Girls Aloud – Love Machine
You there, yes you, Mr Bear. Throw your hands in the air like you just don’t care. Relentless, driving, fun times pop to shake your ta-tas to.
David Robson
Saturday 26 May, 9pm – 1am
New Order – True Faith
This really gets people losing their shit. I think it’s the synth drums. The second it starts you can’t stand still. Unless of course you’ve had a nasty accident which prevents you from doing so.
Erasure – I Love to Hate You
I was once DJing at The RVT and decided to play this. I looked at the dancefloor and thought ‘That looks like Andy Bell.’ Turns out it was! Maybe if I play it again he’ll pop up at the Welly? Fingers crossed.
Pet Shop Boys – Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money)
This one doesn’t get enough air time for my liking and its message still rings true today. Must be played LOUD (For all the PSB geeks out there it’s Version 2 I play)
Kylie – Shocked
The pop pixie turns 50 on the 28th so I have to play some Kylie. Whatever happened to Jazzie P? Oh yeah, Big Brother. What about Michelle Shocked? Is she still about?
Rolling Stones – Start Me Up
As the ol’ boys are in town for the London gigs of their No Filter UK tour I have to play some Stones. This is my absolute favourite. That guitar riff intro and thump effect throughout is so 80s MTV.
DJ Oli B
Sunday 27 May, 9pm – 1am
Tina Turner – Disco Inferno
I play a lot of disco and what’s more disco than this – and it’s Tina.
Salt-N-Pepa – Shoop
My favourite and most played track of all time.
Kim Wilde – Pop Don’t Stop
New album and my new obsession. Kim is my Kylie.
Nervo – The Other Boy
Kylie and Jake Shears, here’s one for the boys.
Tori Amos – Professional Widow (Armand Van Helden’s Star Trunk Mix)
Classic 90s house back when you would see even me dancing.
Plus!
On bank holiday Monday 28 May The Welly has £2.50 selected drinks on offer all day until midnight!
Entry is free.
