Drag Idol Reporter: The Grand Final at the Two Brewers

Drag Idol 2018 has been nothing short of sensational. Hundreds of performers of all kinds entered at 19 venues across the country and after nearly three months of heats and semi finals it all came to a shimmering climax last Friday at the Two Brewers for the Grand Final.

The Clapham venue was packed for the Final where hosts and organisers Crystal D’Canter and Kelly Mild introduced the four finalists: Victoria Scone representing Central Station; wild card winner Felix Le Freak, representing Halfway II Heaven; Zayn Phallic for The RVT; and Vivienne Lynsey from Eden Bar in Birmingham. They all had 10 minutes to impress the panel of judges, which was made up of Titti La Camp, Dave Lynn, Tempest Rose from House of Burlesque and Michael Salter from Pride in London.

Once the judges had deliberated, and it did take a while, we were treated to a great performance from last year’s winner Tracy Barlow, plus it was also revealed that Boyz’ own Dave Cross had raised over £2,500 for Cabaret vs Cancer by not drinking alcohol throughout the whole of Drag Idol this year.

After all that was over it was time for the result and the winner was… Felix Le Freak from Halfway! Judging by the ecstatic reaction from the crowd everyone agreed with the judges, but it can’t have been an easy decision to make as all four acts gave sensational and very different performances. It was a brilliant night following a great contest, which has highlighted the breadth of new talent on the LGBT+ scene.

Well done to everyone involved and especially Felix who you can see this Saturday at Halfway II Heaven and on the Trafalgar Square Main Stage at Pride in London.
