Gabrielle talks about appearing at Brighton Pride

This year there’s a fantastic new element to your Brighton Pride weekend with the addition of LoveBN1 Fest on Sunday in Preston Park. A music centred day, the line up includes Jess Glynne and the legendary Chic and Nile Rodgers. Also on the main stage will be the amazing Gabrielle performing hits such as Dreams, Rise, Out of Reach and songs from her brand new album. Dave Cross caught up with the much loved British soul star.

Hi Gabrielle, are you excited to be performing at Brighton Pride this year?

Yes, I sure am, it’s a super exciting event and I’m really looking forward to it. The line up is amazing!

We know you have performed at many Pride events over the years, you’ve been a great ally and supporter of the LGBT+ community – why is that important to you?

We have been supportive of each other; I love my LGBT+ audience. I love Pride events, a place everyone can be themselves and celebrate love and life.

You are performing on the Sunday alongside some great new British female performers, such Jess Glynne and Raye, in many ways they are continuing the path you set for British soul and R&B in mainstream pop – do you know their work?

I think they are both great. Jess has written some amazing songs, hit after hit. I’m less familiar with Raye, but want to catch her set. I’m hoping to hang out all day watching acts.

You are also on the same bill as the legendary Nile Rodgers and Chic – what does that mean to you?

I can’t wait to see Nile and Chic, it’s great to be on the same bill as him; he has got some major tunes.

2018 is a busy year for you, with shows and your new album. What can you tell us about the new record?

My new album is called Under My Skin, it’s out August 17th and I’m very proud of it. I really enjoyed making this album, it’s been a long time coming but I can’t wait for people to hear it. I think it’s classic Gabrielle, the old new me.

Will you be performing some tracks from it at Brighton?

Yes, I’ll be performing the first single Show Me and my current single Shine I love performing them both live and I’m very excited to be able to play new music.

And some of your hits too?

Of course! How could I not? I think people would throw tomatoes at me if I didn’t. I’ll be doing Rise, Sunshine, Dreams and a few more, and hope everyone sings along with me.
