Comptons Soul’Hoes
Since June there’s been a funky new vibe shaking Old Compton Street every Thursday night. Soul’Hoes at Comptons blends disco, funk and rare grooves with uplifting consequences under the residency of hot DJ Alex Eugenio on the decks. During September Soul’Hoes pays tribute to four LGBT+ institutions that helped shaped the modern clubbing scene. This Thursday (6 Sep) it’s London Soho bar Barcode and then on following weeks we get Sound Factory NYC and The London Apprentice from Old Street before finishing with the legendary Paradise Garage on Thursday 27 September. Each week Alex Eugenio will be spinning the music that helped make these venues so influential.
Maurice at Above The Stag
The team at Above The Stag are in the middle of rehearsals for their next production in the large main theatre space. It is Maurice, the stage version of the book by EM Forster that was made in to a classic film in 1987 starring Hugh Grant and James Wilby. This beautiful play tells a story of forbidden gay love in the early 20th century and is actually directed by James Wilby – yep, the same one who played the title role in the film! Stonewall Housing at The RVT
Next Thursday (13 Sep) the team from Stonewall Housing are celebrating 35 years with a fundraising event at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. This will be a fabulous night of cabaret, burlesque, drag performances, a DJ and a thrilling silent auction and raffle. Michelle McManus at the Brewers
We love it when the gang at the Two Brewers get favourite singers to come to Clapham and next Friday (14 Sep) they have the amazing Michelle McManus appearing with fellow Scot, Mary Mac. Michelle won Pop Idol in 2003 and had a number one single with All This Time – a song Mary has been known to do in her set in an impersonation of Michelle. Don’t say we didn’t warn you…
