Me, myself and I: Nicolas Montenegro

Scene photographer and now nightclub promoter for The Monster Bash, Nico Montenegro, follows Cardi B on Instagram and speaks to his mum several times a day – awww!

Where are you from originally?

I’m from Chile.

What do you love about London and why?

London is very multicultural and you can always find many interesting people to talk, and the party scene is amazing too.

What was the first gay venue you visited?

It was in Chile in Valparaiso. It was called Pagano and it was amazing, very underground and two levels down with pop and trance music.

What made you want to promote your own party?

I wanted to unite some of the many talented people I’ve met in all the years I worked in the clubs and parties in London while shooting pictures.

What was the last theatre show you saw, where, and what did you think of it?

Cabaret in London has amazing singers, history and performers.

What is your guilty pleasure and why?

Eating at nights! I’m just always hungry.

Biggest extravagance?

Buying trainers and T-shirts.

Best gift you’ve ever received and why?

I think life. It gave me the gift to speak with my mum two to three times a day.

What is the best pop record ever made?

I can’t choose one as there are so many good ones but I love J.Lo.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and why?

I meet so many nice artists but one of the first ones was the Sugababes. I was shooting them in Heaven one Saturday night and they were lovely.

If you could go back in time which year would you choose and why?

I don’t think I would go back; my past life was amazing but I love the timeline I’m living now and I got so much to learn still.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to and what made it so good?

Brighton Pride, 3 August 2013. I was working all day but at the same time dancing and having a drink with my mates. The atmosphere was amazing and seeing people happy makes me happy.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Be patient and wise.

Who is your LGBT+ hero and why?

My hero is any person who tries to unite this world. There are so many good people around that I just can’t mention one.

Who are the most entertaining people you follow on social media and why?

Cardi B. She is so natural and I love that she don’t have a filter.

Where in the world would you like to visit before you die and why?

I would like to go back to my home country and see all my friends and family I grew up with.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

It’s better to just keep your mouth shut sometimes.
