How to Catch a Krampas, directed, written by and starring Ginger Johnson is a magically macabre take on traditional Edwardian music hall mixed with European folklore from the Sink The Pink team that’s on until the 23 December at Pleasance Theatre.
Johnson clearly knows his stuff as this throughly entertaining show, that is really a study of human behaviour, is packed with brilliantly executed sight gags from the magnificent cast. Especially impressive is Mairi Houston who plays the angelic girl who has lost her baby brother, which is central to the plot. There’s effective use of a revolving stage and the score includes moments of opera, such as Ach Ich Fuhls and Queen of the Night arias from Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Tornami A Vagheggiar by Handel which takes the production to another level. The show also includes some modern music including a choral style version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller compete with a brilliant moment of the famous choreography. Krampus is bawdy, chaotic fun, think Edgar Allan Poe meets Dickens with a brilliant cast that put 100% into their performance.
A superb farce where theatrical bedlam shines in all it’s glory. Sink the Pink creative have done it again.
