One of the big events of 2018 on the LGBT+ scene was without doubt the opening of Circa The Club on Victoria Embankment. This stunning new late night venue with its state of the art sound and lights, amazing DJs and gorgeous party crowd have given our weekends an exciting new dimension. Dave Cross spoke to owner Alan Winter about 2018 and what’s coming up in 2019.
Hi Alan, 2018 has obviously been a very busy year for you and the gang at Circa, looking back now did it all go according to plan?
It’s been full on, but we’ve powered on through and just about made it to the end of the year without any major hiccups which is brilliant.
The reaction to Circa The Club has been fantastic, are you happy with the response? Absolutely, yes! We aim to please and (hopefully) have been giving people what they want. We’re looking forward to more exciting things coming up and welcoming new customers in 2019.
Have you made any changes in the first six months since it opened?
There have been a few tweaks here and there but nothing major. The late licenses throughout November and December have changed our opening hours.
How has life been at Circa Soho on Frith Street as well?
The bar is going from strength to strength as well. Expanding the brand has brought Circa Soho right back on to people’s radar. We’re open 1pm-1am every day, so pop in and see us for a chilled weekday drink or wild weekend shenanigans.
What can we expect at Circa The Club on New Year’s Eve?
We’ve got DJs Sam Londt and James Lee Dawkins bringing the biggest, baddest bangers until 5am. You can expect bubbles and bangs and more.
And at Circa Soho?
Addison White and Jonathan Bestley will be providing the year’s biggest tunes in the build up to midnight and the feel good party vibes until late before heading down to the The Club.
What are your plans and hopes for 2019?
That Circa The Club will continue going from strength to strength and that the Circa brand keeps providing for the LGBTQ+ community.
