All grown up: Little Ku’s 10th birthday celebration this Saturday 26 January

This Saturday, the gorgeous Little Ku, sometimes called Ku Soho, is celebrating ten years of serving the LGBT scene, plus those lively girls downstairs in She Soho are celebrating their fifth anniversary too. Dave Cross chatted to Ku Group PR god Nieko to find out all the details.

Hey Nieko, so ten years of Little Ku, doesn’t it still feel like the new kid on the block?

Hey, Boyz. Yes, totally! Little Ku opened at the start of 2009 as an addition to the Ku flagship on Lisle Street, like a naughty younger sibling – and it has kept a fresh feel to it with a few re-vamps, including the last few months of continued upgrades which have finished perfectly in time to celebrate turning 10.

Unbelievably some people have never been to Little Ku, how would you describe the venue to those poor souls?

What! I don’t believe you. The venue boasts a slightly more intimate meeting space that its bigger brother in Leicester Square. Imagine a little Ibiza beach bar that you stop off at during your holiday strolls… but in the middle of Soho. It’s perfect to meet our boys, or friends, dates etc or for a good old gossip. On top of that our drinks are delicious and the music is always what’s trending. Plus the Little Ku staff are obsessed with their work selfies on socials, check them out.

What can we expect at Little Ku on Saturday?

You know we like a party right? To play on the decade celebration, and being known for its younger, daring staff and crowds, we’re going a complete retro/UV theme; Glow. We’ll be bringing the tunes of the 90s and naughties, the staff will be dressed like UV ravers, with goodies handed out to customers… AND.. AND… a free ‘Sex On The Beach’ cocktail for all that enter between 8-9pm. Plus we’ll be open till 3am, like I said, we know how to party.

And it’s also five years of She Soho, tell Boyz readers about She?

It is already, it’s amazing. She Soho launched 31 January 2014 as a re-location for Ku’s previous queer women’s venue, Candy Bar. Since its move, there hasn’t been a weekend without a packed dancefloor and girls from all over the UK visiting London’s only dedicated lesbian venue. With DJs four nights a week, events like Karaoke and speed-dating, each week is packed with reasons to visit. And of course, the gorgeous She bar girls serving drinks.

What are they planning for Saturday?

She will be taking its Saturday night party up a whole lotta notches. With DJs Elle and Izzy Trixx, Glow gear will be handed out throughout, with that free ‘Sex On The Beach’ cocktail for all that enter between 8-9pm. It will also be open till 3am, the party will be going right to the last second with everyone from London’s lesbian scene piling in… miss this one, and you’ll be missing out, girls!

What other plans do Ku Group have for 2019?

You know we always like to keep things under wraps Dave. We always love an expansion and upgrades. However, going into Spring is a busy period with Valentine’s, Easter, Bank Holidays and… Eurovision of course. We’ve got plenty to come and we’re excited for everyone to be a part of it.
