Boyz Awards 2019

Meet the winners of the Boyz Awards 2019

Last Thursday the great and the good of the LGBT+ community took over The Two Brewers for the 2019 Boyz Awards party. More than 9500 Boyz readers voted this year across 19 categories plus there were two special awards given by the Boyz editorial team. The ceremony was hosted by brilliant Lola Lasagne who was on hilarious form, literally no one was safe. Plus we were also treated to a special performance by Drag Idol 2018 winner Felix Le Freak. We laughed, we cried, we had a few shots, laughed some more and Catia from The RVT stole one of the table centres and then posted about in on social media… you don’t get that at the Oscars. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to Jimmy Smith and the whole Brewers team, Lola, Felix, James who did the decor, DJ Liam Chaplin and everyone who came.

Outstanding Contribution

UK Black Pride

UK Black Pride is an organisation that have proved that although it’s rarely easy, doing the right thing is possible with hard work and determination. What started as a small group of LGBT+ people unhappy with how they were made to feel on the scene has grown to become an organisation dedicated to promoting unity and co-operation among all people of colour, African, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American descent, as well as their friends and families, who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The heart of their work is the extraordinary annual festival event on the Sunday of Pride weekend which has become one of the best and most joyful days on the LGBT+ calendar, a true celebration of LGBT+ black culture and talent. This special award is presented to the team from UK Black Pride to recognise their outstanding and important work.

Outstanding Contribution

Lola Lasagne

Lola Lasagne is someone who makes the world a better place just by being themselves, representing everything that is great about the live cabaret scene. A much loved and respected drag performer, quite simply one of the funniest acts you will ever see. Over the past three decades Lola has performed all over the UK at every gay venue you can think of. As a performer Lola is simply brilliant, but she is also first in line when it comes to charity events, a fierce defender of the gay cabaret scene and promoter of new talent of every kind. Lola is a key part of the team at Brighton Pride as the driving force that organises the amazing Legends cabaret tent each year. This year Lola is celebrating 30 years as a performer, she’s fierce and funny, and takes no prisoners. This award marks the outstanding contribution that Stephen Richards, aka Lola Lasagne, has made to the UK LGBT+ scene.
