See & Scene: Boyz Awards Party this Thursday at the Brewers, National Student Pride, Lip Sync War at Halfway and more

Forget The Oscars and The Brits, this Thursday is the awards ceremony that really matters, yes it’s the Boyz Awards 2019. On Thursday (21 Feb) the great and the good of the gay scene and LGBT+ community will be taking over the Club Bar at The Two Brewers as our gorgeous hostess, Lola Lasagne reveals who has won what this year. There will also be a special performance by last year’s Drag Idol winner Felix Le Freak and the whole shebang will be followed by cabaret from Sandra in the Cabaret Bar. The doors open at 7pm, the show will start sharp at 9pm, and everyone is welcome!

National Student Pride

National Student Pride 2019 is on this weekend from Friday (22 Feb) to Sunday (24 Feb) and is packed with fascinating stuff. The main day event takes place at the University of Westminster with a careers fair, talks, guest appearances and much more. Plus on Friday there’s a special event at G-A-Y Late with drag performers Tayce, Cara Melle and Ore-Ho between 7.30pm and 10.30 pm. Two absolute highlights on the Saturday will be appearances by the legend that is Sir Ian McKellen and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 4 star Trinity the Tuck. Details are at studentpride.co.uk

The RVT weekend

There’s another totes rockin’ weekend ahead at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, kicking off on Friday (22 Feb) with the gorgeous and possibly bonkers LipSinkers for cabaret shenanigans and clubbing fun. Saturday is, of course the mighty Duckie complete with Readers Wifes, Amy Lamé, Jay Cloth and guest performers. The weekend comes skidding to a climax on Sunday when that demur chanteuse Myra DuBois takes to the stage with DJs Simon Le Vans and Craig Jones.

Gay Times Tango at The Brewers

This Sunday (24 Feb) there’s a very special event happening at The Two Brewers from 7pm. Gay Times Tango is organised by Christopher Wellbelove, The Mayor of Lambeth and is a celebration of those who have and continue to fight for LGBT+ rights and is inspired by the 1975 Gay Times Festival that was a precursor to London Pride. Hosted by Timberlina, the evening will feature Crystal D’Canter, Dave Lynn, Marsha Mallow, Mrs Moore, Sandra, Miss Jason and many more and is raising money for charity, Hero. Lip Sync War at Halfway

It’s another action packed weekend ahead at Halfway II Heaven with Baga Chipz on Friday (22 Feb) and all the usual crazy on Saturday (23 Feb) from Mrs Moore, Rose Garden and the Vixens, and right slap bang in the middle of it all at 8pm is the Halfway heat of Lip Sync War. This fabulous contest is hosted by Sum Ting Wong and will feature a host of bonkers pop music miming that’s as much fun to watch as it is to enter. The weekend finishes with, what else but CK Sunday… gorgeous.

Cabaret at George & Dragon

If you are in or near Greenwich then stop what you’re doing and head to the George and Dragon where they once again have a glittering cabaret line-up this weekend. Thursday (21 Feb) it’s Crystal D’Canter, Friday is Miss Jason, Saturday Sandra and on Sunday you get Mary Mac, Jason and Tanya Hyde. Marvellous. 

Cheap Monday at the Duke of Welly

If you’ve spent way too much over the weekend, but really need a beer on Monday night, then A. We hear ya, and B. Good news everyone, those lovely folk at The Duke of Wellington have a gorgeous drinks promotion all day Monday with selected drinks for just £2.50. Wahoo!

Cabaret double at The Old Ship

This weekend John and his team at The Old ship in Limehouse have two much loved acts gracing the stage. Saturday (23 Feb) is Miss Jason and on Sunday the rather splendid Tiffaney Wells.

Glitter in the Darkroom

Will You Be There Darling? is one of our favourite new club nights and from next Friday (1 Mar) promoter Michael and his team are bringing us a new weekly party called Glitter in the Darkroom at Protocol at Fire in Vauxhall, it’s the Lightbox entrance by the tube station from 7pm to 1am. There will be everything we love about WYBTD? the best in commercial pop and queer anthems, a free glitter station and now with added darkroom! Let’s party at Circa The Club

Without doubt the gay clubbing event of 2018 was the opening of the sensational brand new Circa The Club, next door to Embankment Station. It’s open late every Friday and Saturday with amazing DJs and a frisky, sexy crowd of boys and girls of the party kind. 

Thank god it’s Friday at the White Swan

This weekend, you’ve only got one shot of White Swan madness because the Limehouse venue is shut on Saturday, but Friday (22 Feb) sees the award-winning DJ Aaran Bader mixing up the tunage. Don’t miss out.

Musicals at the Rose and Crown

If you love a good sing-along to the classics from musicals – and honestly who doesn’t? –  then every Tuesday check out the musicals night at Ye Old Rose & Crown in Greenwich. It’s fab.

Miss Tish Ewe at Sundowners

Miss Tish Ewe was one of the funniest new drag queen we saw last year in Drag Idol. She’s rude, saucy, takes no prisoners and if you haven’t had the pleasure, you can see her this Saturday (23 Feb) at the lovely Sundowners in Margate, she’s on stage at 11pm.

It’s Aura Jay at The Yard Coventry

Although they have something fantastic on every night, Friday night is the big night for cabaret at The Yard in Coventry. This Friday (22 Feb) they have the sensational Aura Jay bringing us big laughs and a great voice in her own unique and dare we say, sexy style.

Gently Down The Stream

Gently Down The Stream is the new play from legendary playwright Martin Sherman and it’s on now at the Park Theatre in Finsbury Park. This fascinating piece tells the story of how life has changed for gay people over the past century through the lens of three gay men of different ages and their relationships. Diana Ross screening

If any act on Earth deserves to be called a legend, it has to be the original soul diva herself, Diana Ross. On Tuesday 26 March the lady turns 75 and as part of the celebrations there will be special screenings in cinemas across the UK of a film called Her Life, Love and Legacy which includes footage from the iconic film about her 1983 concert in Central Park.
