The Talented Art Fair at the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch this weekend

The Talented Art Fair is back at the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch this weekend (1–3 March) showcasing the work of emerging and established painters, sculptors and photographers.

The 2019 edition of The Talented Art Fair will feature many acclaimed artists including last year’s Art Gemini Prize Winner Lubna Speitan and 2017 Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year Finalist John Ball.

One artist who has caught our eye in particular is Alexa Harris and she will be exhibiting a series of male nudes at the Fair.

We caught up with Alexa and asked her what inspires her?

“I am inspired by the strength and beauty of the male form. The core from within the human body excites me. When I draw and paint the nude it’s the fascination of the human form in space that is mirrored and layered. Playing with light and weight is what I try to do in my work to capture the essence of a moment and of space. Drawing dancers with music is another joy of mine. Sound, texture, shape and form repeating to the rhythm.”

Your nudes are not exactly traditional or even figurative. How do you approach them?

“My work has rawness, which is both abstracted and deconstructed. l love an unfinished edge; an unfilled area in a landscape or a headless figure. This keeps my interest to full immersion. I am excited by colour and form and playing with light. I am obsessed by the three dimensionality of the line and how one can literally cut space. It’s a battle, pushing all the time, essentially drawing what you really see, not what you think you see.”

We certainly look forward to seeing Alexa’s nudes in the flesh, alongside works by around 100 other artists from around the world at affordable prices.
