Myra DuBois joins The Power of Four at The Two Brewers

The news is finally out, the biggest secret on the UK cabaret scene has been revealed… yes, it’s true, The Power of Three at The Two Brewers is increasing in every way as the one and only Myra DuBois is joining the team and as from this Sunday it becomes The Power of Four. Dave Cross was granted an audience with the unsinkable Ms DuBois and he also asked the other three residents, Miss Jason, Mary Mac and Sandra for their reactions to the joyous news.

Hi Myra, are you excited to be joining the team of residents on a Sunday at The Two Brewers?

Hello Dave! It’s been a while hasn’t it? It must be good to hear from me again. Yes indeed! What an honour to be asked to join such a legendary institution. Alongside Sundays at The RVT, The Power of Three at the Two Brewers really is one of the jewels of London’s cabaret-scene crown and I’m now thrilled that I can count BOTH of these coveted cabaret spots amongst my residencies. What a privilege!

What is it about the Brewers and the crowd that have tempted you to sign up as a resident?

They’re quite raucous at the Brewers. I’ve been covering Miss Jason throughout March whilst she was in Thailand ahead of joining the line-up officially, so I’ve had chance to size up the punters there. They’re there for a good time and they want to join in, so I’ll have to prepare a very different show for them than I might perform at The RVT, for example. It’s more sing-a-long-y, more up tempo and with plenty of participation. Which suits my regulars, the AdMyras, as quite frankly sometimes my shows are like a one-woman Rocky Horror production! They all know their bits and they shout them out with relish! I think my regulars will gel wonderfully with the regulars at the Brewers; with whom I’m very much looking forward to forging a special relationship.

The night is called The Power of Four, if you had a super power what would it be?

I’ve already got a super-power Dave Cross, as well you know; and it’s my voice. I think we can safely say that there’s no one else on the scene or indeed this Earth that can sing like me. It’s a power I only use for good too, Dave. I often move people with my voice; sometimes to another room. Sometimes people hear what I can do to a song and they just need a minute to themselves to process it.

With the success of films such as Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, is is only a matter of time before you are made an offer by Hollywood?

To portray a super hero or to be the subject of a film? This question is a little vague Dave Cross and if you don’t mind me making accusations; can I say I suspect you just want to mention your own interests here? It’s a little self-indulgent quite frankly Dave and after Rebecca Brooks I thought we’d stamped out this kind of journalism,

You will be sharing Sundays with three other cabaret stars, can you please give us your opinion on Miss Jason, Mary Mac and Sandra?

Oh I love the three of them, they’re wonderful. Lovely little Mary, she’s like an air horn at a football match isn’t she? All that loud noise compressed into a tiny little can. She can really belt out the hits can’t she? And I always say, with a voice like Mary’s it doesn’t matter what you look like. Sandra’s on a planet that’s entirely her own isn’t she? Doesn’t know what day of the week it is or what venue she’s playing, but she always pulls it out of the bag and Miss Jason and her polyphonic backing tracks are a constant delight. I’m thrilled to be included in such a line-up.

What else is coming up for you in 2019?

As well as my pub and club gigs (my ‘bread and butter’ gigs, I call them) I’ve got a few exciting theatre shows coming up! My Christmas show, We Wish You A Myra Christmas, will be landing at the Soho Theatre in May. You read right, MAY. That wasn’t a typo. And why not? Who doesn’t want to get into the festive spirit at the dawn of summer? There’s also the Edinburgh Fringe in August, where I shall be taking my new show, Dead Funny, which is me holding my own funeral for a laugh. What else? My podcast, The Myra DuBois Podcast Show is going from strength to strength and available to download now and there’s some VERY exciting things coming up in the autumn that I can’t yet talk about, so watch this space…

Miss Jason on Myra

‘I think of Myra as a domestic goddess. She’s handy around the house… stick her picture in the window you won’t get burgled. She’s got a face that strips paint, a voice that can unblock a toilet and living with her you get a grant from the council.’

Mary Mac on Myra

‘I think Myra ‘off the telly’ DuBois joining the already iconic Sunday line-up at The Two Brewers is a fantastic thing, her show is like no other and the audience will be even more grateful when I come on!’

Sandra on Myra

‘WHAT? I can’t believe that Jimmy Smith has enough money to employ another act for Sundays… I’m putting my fucking money up. 22 years I’ve been there and I’m still treated like a slave. But, I am happy Myra is joining, she brings a new element to Sundays and thank God it wasn’t the return of La Voix!’

Entry is free before 8pm.
