We chat to Oliver at The Duke of Welly

The Duke of Wellington is the  Award-winning pub with a difference. Located in the heart of Soho it’s home to hot pop DJs of all kinds, drag hosted quizzes and bingo, amazing drinks deals and a mega friendly team. Dave Cross had a catch up with General Manager Oliver Blatherwick to find out what’s coming up this month.

Hi Oliver, how is the summer going at The Welly?

Summer really is the Welly’s season and this year it hasn’t disappointed us. Every Friday and Saturday is like
a summer street party with our weekend DJs and ice cool beers.

How was your Pride?

Fabulously chaotic. It was a great day and one massive celebration. The people were amazing, the music was on point from David Robson and Heidi Liscious. The staff and security worked really hard with our doorman Paul hugging every customer as they left at closing. All in all our best Pride yet.

What special events do you have coming up?

The dust doesn’t settle, after Pride, at the Welly; we have a one off Sunday cabaret night with Vinegar Stroke from hit West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, she’ll be bringing her chill out session in the upstairs bar on Sunday 4 August from 8pm. We have upped our weekend DJs with Lady Lloyd joining us for the 1st and 2nd Saturdays of the month. We are carrying on with our Diva Tour
specials with our Ariana Grande night as she storms the O2 Arena on Saturday 17 August. Our very own Diva, DJ David Robson will be playing her hits throughout the night.

What are you planning for August Bank Holiday weekend?

As it’s the last summer bank holiday we are going all out. There will be £5 drink offers and extra ‘can bars’ so you can take to the street and enjoy the sun for an extra long weekend. We are staying open an extra hour on each night with the best DJs. We will be raising money for The Food Chain so bring all that loose change and notes with you.

And how are the regular nights going?

Mondays DP? with all day £2.75 drink promotions is always a good way to start your week. The ever popular #BusyLady Bingo hosted by Sheila Simmonds is like no bingo you have ever played before with camp prizes from Poundland and a cash jackpot on Tuesdays. Martha and Topsie host the quiz every Wednesday where we have, so far, given over £2,000 in cash. We have numerous DJs for you over the weekend starting with Heidi Liscious with our Panda Pop Fridays and then we have our resident DJs Holestar, David Robson and Lady Lloyd bringing you a variety of hits throughout the decades. Last Sunday of the month we host an acoustic cabaret night with Vanity Von Glow and guitarist Huw Roberts and don’t forget about our monthly Sunday socials and Thursday quiz with the Britbears, join up with them and receive drinks promos on their events with us.

Entry is free.
