Michael Griffiths at Crazy Coqs: Review by Stephen Vowles

Michael Griffiths was put on this earth to entertain and his affectionate and rather cheeky homage to fellow antipodean Kylie Minogue is both heartfelt and very clever. He performs her songbook in chronological order and in between songs tells us about the diminutive pop princess. His own skill as a pianist is not in dispute as he uses the instrument to great effect adding an atmosphere to his renditions with a slight jazz feel to the numbers that is both smooth and very easy on the ear. In his repertoire he also gives the same treatment to Annie Lennox and Madonna and other entertainers he most admires. Elegance personified with him also making his London premiere with his ‘By Request’ show which completes his run at Crazy Coqs at Zedel. Slick and with Griffiths it is very clear he is having a ball with his audience lapping it up.
