We love The Duke of Wellington in Soho, and seriously what’s not to love? A relaxed LGBT+ boozer where absolutely everyone is welcome, there’s great DJs, bingo, quizzes, drag queens, cold beers, hot bears and there’s always a fun crowd. This week Oliver and his Boyz Award-winning team are blowing out the candles as they celebrate 18 years of The Welly being a gay venue. Although the big birthday bash is on Saturday there’s something fun happening most nights from Tuesday (10 Sep) so here’s what you need to know.
Busy Lady Bingo
Tuesday 10 September, from 8.30pm
The hilarious weekly bingo bash is hosted by Aussie shopping superstar Sheila Simmonds with gorgeous and ‘expensive’ prices galore… It says here.
Welly Quiz
Wednesday 11 September, from 8.30pm
The amazing Martha D’arthur is your host this week for the quiz and for the birthday the theme is, Who Wants to be a Wellyoniare… and don’t be fooled by her ‘nice queen’ persona, Dark Martha is always ready to come out to play, if you try to cheat on her rules.
Panda Pop
Friday 13 September, from 9pm – 1am
Thank God it’s Friday, especially when the day-glow queen of Soho, Heidi Liscious is on the decks for Panda Pop. She mixes up today’s pop bangers with a sprinkle of classics and guilty pleasures.
18th Birthday Bash
Saturday 14 September, from 3pm
For the big day itself, they are building a special cabaret stage in the main bar and bringing in two 18 year olds… no wait, that’s wrong, the cabaret stars are none other than Lola Lasagne and Miss Penny, both of whom would like a pair of 18 year olds. There will be big laughs and big songs as they celebrate the venue’s coming of age and they are followed at 9pm by another quiet and demure girl next door, the award winning Lady lloyd.
Glam Jam
Sunday 15 September, from 3pm
Kicking off a new monthly residency, cabaret legend Lady Imelda and the amazing CJ on the keyboard are making a welcome return to Soho. Glam Jam is a musical session like no other, we guarantee you’ll laugh, you’ll sing along and you’ll love it.
