Sunday 1 December is World AIDS Day and at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern they have a special fundraiser for Terrence Higgins Trust, with not one but two Queens of Cabaret making their debuts at Sunday Social at the legendary venue. We asked both Holestar and Lola Lasagne to tell us what this means to them.

“Since the early 80s when HIV/AIDS first appeared, the THT and The RVT have worked tirelessly to raise money and awareness for people living with the disease. So it’s an honour to perform on this iconic stage and with this wonderful organisation. World AIDS Day has always been an important date in my calendar to honour those we’ve lost previously and to fight the stigma that still exists. Along with Holestar, Simon LeVans, the RVT team and THT we’ll be making a show of solidarity to send a message to our LGBTQ+ community and beyond. Hope you can join us on Sunday 1 December.”

“I’m bum clenchingly excited about performing at The RVT for World AIDS Day. I’ve performed there numerous times over the years, but the Sunday slot is hallowed ground for any British queen who knows their heritage. And as far as I know, I’m the first lady queen booked to do it so there’s that! I’ll be doing my Big Camp Sing-along show because who doesn’t love screaming along to the classics with a beverage in their hand?
Advances in science regarding HIV have been remarkable over the years, but we should always commemorate those from our community who are no longer here to benefit from them. We also need to destroy the stigma around those living with HIV. Hearing how small minded and downright rude people are on popular shag apps shows that many need to learn compassion and understanding.”
