Iconic hotel nhow London opens its doors

Design and lifestyle nhow hotels have opened nhow London, the first of its iconic hotel brand in the UK. The hot new hotel is located in the new ‘250 City Road’ development and features bold and fresh designs, striking colours and with an unconventional but comfortable, contemporary feel. We visited the new nhow London and spoke to Marketing Manager Eleanor Judge to find out more about this unique addition to London’s hotels.

What is the nhow London hotel?

We are the new kid in town and the place to eat, sleep, work and play! We are part of the chameleonic nhow brand where each hotel takes on the personality of the city it’s in. We have an amazing open plan lobby full of funky furniture and art work, a stylish bar, innovative restaurant, underground gym, three inspiring meeting spaces and 190 vibrant bedrooms.

Can you tell us about nhow London’s main design theme?

Old London reloaded! Our interior design team at Project Orange have taken this to the extreme in a completely amazing way. Every corner you turn there is something that makes you say ‘wow’, from the moment you walk into the lobby and see the artwork on the pillars or the queens guard chairs, to the cockney rhyming slang on the tables in the restaurant, the ceramic electric tea pot in the bedrooms and the London underground themed gym. Even the music has the London theme, where Open Ear have curated playlists for the lobby, gym and basement toilets.

Who created all the amazing artwork and other spectacular design features in the hotel?

The artwork in the hotel is all from the Jealous Gallery in Shoreditch. James from Project Orange partnered with them for the project and everything from the pillars in the lobby to the framed pictures in the penthouse has come from them.

One of the most striking elements is the Big Ben rocket sculpture in the lobby, can you tell us about that and who created it?

This was designed by Project Orange and commissioned through Jealous Gallery as well, created by Rogue Product. It really epitomises the London reloaded theme, with each trajectory pointing skywards fusing past, present and future together.

Can you tell us about your impressive bar and what it offers in cocktails and beers?

Our bar is at the heart and centre of our hotel and I can hand on heart say, offers some of the best cocktails I have ever tasted. The Royal Cufflink is my favourite, a mix of chocolate and champagne, heaven in a glass! We also have a huge gin selection, as well as other spirits, and local beers on tap including Camden Hells and Goose Island.

In your restaurant you have a “flexitarian” menu, can you tell us how that works?

For us, our flexitarian menu is all about focusing on the fresh, seasonal vegetables and putting these at the heart of the dish. We all know about the issues with over-consumption of meat and this allows us to do our part in combatting it. Fear not, your taste satisfaction doesn’t need to suffer for the cause as our talented team of chefs create the most delicious dishes using vegetables, with flavour combinations that truly tantalise your taste buds! Plus if you don’t fancy going meat free just yet or you are a flexitarian (flexible vegetarian), then choose one of the extra meat or fish options to add onto your veggie main.

Is everyone welcome to visit the restaurant and bar?

Yes! The more the merrier and we really do have something for everyone with our food and drink menus. The menu in The Bell & Whistle is great for a more sophisticated date night where you want to impress, whereas our all day dining menu in the lobby is great for a more laid back occasion offering comfort food and sharing platters to tuck into.

What special music nights will you be holding at nhow London?

At the moment our schedule includes three nights a week – Thursday night is our first DJ night, helping you kickstart the weekend in style, Friday night we have our live sax player accompanied by a DJ, which is so cool and I challenge you to resist the urge to get up and dance! And then on Saturday we have our second DJ night to continue the party vibe. We have a lot more planned for the future too so watch this space.

You are located in a handy part of London for both visits to the West End and to Shoreditch and East London, can you tell us about your location?

So we are smack bang in the middle of Old Street and Angel stations, just off City Road. As you mentioned we’re in an ideal location for both tourists wanting to visit central London as well as business travellers heading into the City. And not to forget the amazing things to do right on our doorstep including Brick Lane market, Shoreditch high street and local art galleries! We actually have a Santander bike dock right outside for those wanting to explore on two wheels, and guests staying in our suites can use our very own Brompton bikes to ride around London.

You also have a co-working space in the lobby?

Yes, whilst our whole lobby is full of lounges that would all be great places to work, we have a specially designed co-working table providing the perfect spot to get stuck into a bit of work. Complete with comfy chairs, natural daylight, free WiFi and power sockets, as well as easy access to the bar for a caffeine hit, or stress busting alcoholic beverage depending on the day!

Your 190 bedrooms are also unique designs, can you describe some of their special features?

Each of our bedrooms have been designed in a way to surprise our guests. As soon as you step foot into the corridors the experience is pretty spectacular, with the lighting, carpet and bedroom doors all combining to create the feeling of a stroll through the residential streets of Islington. Once inside the rooms there is just as much to look at as in the lobby, with the punk graffiti of the Queen above the bed, the bulldog lights, designer armchair and even the monarch adorning the bathroom wall. The beds are also ridiculously comfy, and each room is kitted out with amenities fit for royalty! If you’re looking for that extra wow factor then our junior suites are sure to impress, with so much space and a bath tub with a view! Or for a stay to remember, our penthouse really is something special. It has a Royal Garden theme that won’t disappoint, complete with more fantastic artwork from Jealous Gallery, floor-to-ceiling windows offering views over the city and a gold sink that is truly palace worthy!

How would you sum up for Boyz readers what makes nhow London special for its guests?

We offer a different experience for everyone every time they visit us, whether it be for cake and coffee in the lobby, to start the weekend with some live jazz or to enjoy a staycation. We’re the new cosmopolitan home-away-from-home for Londoners, and the place for tourists to emerge themselves in an authentic London experience.
