Statement from James Lindsay, CEO at The RVT: “We can confirm that we will be re-opening The RVT on the evening of Saturday 4th July”

James Lindsay, CEO of The RVT, made his announcement – after the Prime Minister’s statement to Parliament – confirming the popular and iconic venue would be reopening on Saturday 4th July. Here is James’s statement in full.

“In line with the Prime Minister’s statement today we can confirm that we will be re-opening The RVT on the evening of Saturday 4th July. Details of our programme including upcoming cabaret will follow in the next few days.

We are very happy to confirm that thanks to the overwhelming generosity of every single person who has donated we have now surpassed our initial Go Fund Me target of £50,000. This campaign has generated massive engagement for us through social media and we have been moved by the love and affection that the LGBTQ+ community holds for the RVT and it is what attracted mainstream outlets who kindly championed our cause.

The fundraiser has benefited from over 1500 separate donations from all over the world. We want to thank everyone who made donations including customers, promoters, DJs and performers many of whom have been personally affected by the Covid 19 pandemic, thank you for supporting The RVT.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of affection and the touching comments that have been made. We are very grateful to the many performers, promoters, DJs and community leaders who shared and talked about the campaign and also people such as Lorraine Kelly, Owen Jones, Mzz Kimberley, Divina DeCampo and Asifa LaHore who recorded video messages of support that really helped taking the message to a wider audience. We’d also like to thank Sky News, BBC News, ITV News, Attitude, QX Magazine and the various media outlets that supported us.

We are going to allow the campaign to continue whilst we await decisions from City Hall – Culture at Risk Business Support Fund regarding the funding vehicle they have created.

So… let’s embark on this new chapter for the RVT, together.

Thank you.”
