Here Come The Boys at The London Palladium: Press night review by Stephen Vowles

Here Come the Boys, directed and choreographed by Gareth Walker, is a high octane, expressive show which impressively uses the vast Palladium stage. It’s also an acutely sexy show with Strictly stalwarts Aljaz Skorjanec and Graziano Di Prima and special guest lady dancer Nadiya Bychkova, plus Pasha Kovalev who was on the TV show last season. Karim Zeroual acted as host joined by beatboxer Bass6. Robin Windsor powered through the set routines with an ease that was both bewitching and beguiling.

The core body strength of this troupe of dancers has set the bar very high and with a competitive streak between the male dancers this enhanced the individual battles the guys put themselves through as they covered each discipline and style set to all different genres of music.

This is a two hour show where the guys really come at you like a gallop of pure bred stallions at full pelt exuding an energy and an extraordinary dedication to their craft, pushing in a relentless pursuit of what the human body is capable of.

Special mention – he gets the 10 points – has to go to the master that is Robin Windsor. His stage presence is admirable and his special tribute to Freddie Mercury during the section honouring idols was sublime, performing with a grace and elegance, a balletic quality to the movement of these stand out set pieces.

As the cast took their well deserved bows the very appreciative audience exploded into a rapture of delight demanding repeated encores. Here Come The Boys champions live theatre as it should be.

It was very much in evidence to the audience, who varied enormously in ages, that the performers were releasing their emotional, physical and mental  attributes – and as lockdown starts to be relaxed this is a joyous situation to be in. These ‘Boys’ – the kings of dance – have most certainly arrived.
