Dorothy Goes Glamping: Press weekend reviewed by Stephen Vowles

Fabulous hosts Darrell and Jen were there to greet and meet and show us to our wonderful and very spacious tent deep within the wood. Complete with space to cook, gas cooker, pots and pans and cutlery all provided plus portable loo, bedlinen and towels made for a very exciting induction into the world of “Glam camping” – and an outdoor fire pit with all logs supplied added to the evening’s magic.

With a full three days planned that included an opening Friday night Pizza Party with wine and introduction to the other guests and then a tour around the whole site made for good way to get over any London tiredness and breathing in the country air made for a superb night’s heavy sleep. Fab breakfasts of fresh fruit salads was of the highest standard and served in a relaxed way that just added to the whole “Dorothy Goes Glamping” experience. Saturday we were offered a BBQ.

Very clean shower and loo facilities were available and each tent – ours was The Owl – linked to the bathroom. With the whole site being powered by solar energy, the hot water was endless and separate kitchen facilities were just a short walk away via the well maintained  paths and cropped bushes.

Still water hot tubs – a 6 seater and a 2 seater – were also bookable and with Darrell concentrating heavily on all the regulations and rules associated with COVID made for a safe and secure environment.

As a novice to this kind of thing, I would recommend giving it a try and any inner “Boyz Scout” should be revealed. Although Darrell’s mantra is to disconnect to technology, a Bluetooth entertainment system is available and being on your mobile phone is not frowned upon.

The site totally embraces the LGBT+ community and with special events and catering for groups, early booking is encouraged.

Fresh air, good company, excellent food and very comfortable accommodation, all came together beautifully. Travelling from London, allow up to three hours to get there with the M3/A3 getting busy. Travelling home it would also be a good idea to pop by Stonehenge (but at £25.40 a bit pricy in my humble opinion!).
