Backroom at the Two Brewers celebrates its first birthday this Friday

Backroom is the hot monthly club night from DJs Liam Chaplin and Sam Londt that happens at the Two Brewers in Clapham. This Friday they are celebrating one year of parties, so Dave Cross had a catch up with da boys.

Hi guys, where did the idea come from to start Backroom?

Liam: Myself and Sam have worked together in a number of venues over the last few years and play a similar mix of commercial house and pop. We were approached by the Two Brewers’ Deputy Manager, Jamie, about creating a new monthly Friday club night to run alongside Ruggercub, Enriched and Ball. We both had shows on the internet and DAB Radio station This is Electric, so decided to incorporate that into the new brand. After much name deliberation – Backroom was born!

How would you describe the music policy?

Sam: Believe it or not in just a year the music policy has changed. We recently decided to lose the harder house style within the night and take it more commercial to appeal to a bigger crowd. So now when you come to Backroom you can expect some cool remixes, big house bangers, old and new plus all your favourite chart toppers.

Why do you think it works so well at the Brewers?

Liam: The Brewers have such a fun crowd. From the loyal regulars to the straight allies that venture to the venue, they always know they’re gonna have a great night. The music style really compliments the cabaret bar too – with DJ Demon playing all the camp and cheese and us bringing the pop and house, there really is something for everyone. Not forgetting the amazing bar team too, it’s like one big family – Backroom wouldn’t be half what it is without them.

Sam: Brewers’ music policy is mainly pop and chart in the front room so it made sense to throw in something a bit different to and cater to a wider crowd.

You’ve done some fun theme nights, what are your favourites?

Liam: My personal favourites were Jungle and North Pole. Jungle we had an awesome face painter and our dancers looked amazing! North Pole was so much fun too with Santa hats, Christmas trees and presents.

Sam: Hmmmmm…. I think my favourite was one of the first ones we did, which was a UV party. From what I remember, I did have a drink that night – it was a lot of fun.

What have you got planned for the birthday party on Friday?

Sam: I can’t speak for Liam but I’m expecting to play a load of cool tunes from over the last year and drink a Jagerbomb for each song too – Lol! We will have our usual fun crowd in, go-go boys on the stage, me and Liam will be spinning tunes all night plus there may be a free shot or two floating about.

Liam: Dancers, photographer, DJs, balloons, bubbles and more. It’s gonna be a great party!

What are your future plans for Backroom?

Sam: I hope we will continue to build the night at the Brewers and hopefully be celebrating our second birthday in no time. Look out for some really cool new themes too.

Liam: We have so many ideas floating about, next year is sure to be amazing. Great themes, guest DJs, PAs and of course our awesome dancers. I’m planning our November Backroom and Christmas Backroom. Spoiler – the Santa hats might make a cheeky reappearance!
