Danny Beard is back at the RVT at Sunday Social

Sunday Social at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern is a unique mix of brilliant club music from DJs Simon Le Vans, Liam Chaplin, Sean Sirrs and more plus an amazing selection of world-class cabaret acts. This Sunday the one and only Danny Beard, winner of Drag Idol and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist is back on that hallowed stage. Dave Cross had a catch up with Mr Beard to find out what’s going on in Danny World.

Hello Danny, how the hell are you?

Hello lovely. I’m smashing at the mo thanks.

Are you looking forward to being back at the RVT on Sunday?

I can’t wait. It’s been a little while so I’m excited to be back and having a laugh with all the Vauxhall folk.

What is it about the venue that makes it so beloved by performers?

I think when somewhere is so steeped in history you can’t help but soak the atmosphere of the place in. You know that when you’re stood on that stage it’s where some of the greats have stood – you know what I mean. It’s a nervous feeling because you want to make sure the show is as good as it can be, and I feel like it’s that pressure that makes performers love it. It’s a space in which we can push ourselves but have a bloody good time doing it.

We know the RVT Sunday Social crowd do love to sing-along, what are your favourite songs to perform there?

Oh you know me I love a big powerful song and the RVT is just built for that. I love to do big numbers from acts like Adele and Queen. I might even do a bit of Tina…. can’t go wrong with Proud Mary.

Will you be doing anything new on Sunday songs wise?

I sure will, I’m loving Lorde at the moment so I have a great track from her for the show. Plus there will be a bit of Wicked and the Spice Girls to make sure it’s EXTRA camp and  depending how long I ramble on, I’ve just added some M people to my set, just in case the clubbers turn up and I’m still going!

What else have you been up to recently?

I’ve been keeping myself busy working up and down the country and doing the rounds as you do. I think the more I do the more I fall in love with it. I’m very lucky that I get to do very varied gigs. Recently I’ve been hosting and judging a fabulous drag competition in Manchester called KIKI Queens. The final for that is coming up and we have managed to convince Gemma Collins to come and help me pick a winner so that’s happening on Thursday 26th October and should be a scream.

What else is coming up for you in the rest of the year?

This Christmas I am making my pantomime debut in the West End playing the magical mirror alongside Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog! Well. OK it’s Sevenoaks in Kent, but it’s close enough to the West End for most northerners, so for people reading this from Birmingham and above it’s the West End darlings.

Anything else we need to know?

I re-joined Slimming World this week and I’m craving double cheese burgers.

Entry is £5 members, £8 or £6 guests.
