The Winners Revealed: Boyz Awards Party at the Two Brewers this Thursday and you’re invited!

As we speak, the elves here at Boyz Towers are sifting through the massive number of votes cast in this year’s Boyz Awards. Seriously folks, we’ve had over 9,000 people have their say this year – that’s the largest number in the 27 years we’ve been running them.

The big question is, of course, who the flip has won the Gold, Silver and Bronze this year? All will be revealed next Thursday (22 Feb) at the Boyz Awards Party at the Two Brewers, where doors open at 7pm and the show will start sharp at 9pm. No awards ceremony is complete without a sensational host and we have not one but two of the very best (who we could persuade to do it). We have Brighton’s finest (it says here) cabaret star and award host ninja, Lola Lasagne, teaming up with her sometime-ugly sister and partner in crime, Rotherham’s least celebrated daughter, that one-woman meat raffle, ‘her off the telly’, Myra Dubois. Our hosts will bring a style and sophistication clearly absent from other award shows plus there will also be a special performance from last year’s Drag Idol winner Tracy Barlow.

We asked our two hosts if they could put into words their feelings of excitement for next week’s party.

Myra DuBois

“The Boyz Awards are a bit of fun really, aren’t they? It’s a nice excuse for the LGBT+ scene to get together after a busy Christmas period and have the closest thing we’ll ever get to a ‘staff do’. And as the host (I’ve never liked the term “co-host”, would we call Lola a co-host? I think she’s more of a hosts-appendage. A sub-host, if you like), it means that no matter whether I should win a gong or not (I’ve not trusted the voting public since June 2016), I shall still be adored by the audience. And that’s the main thing, isn’t it?”

Lola Lasagne

“This is my forth consecutive time of hosting and not winning, which makes me Dermot O’Leary at the NTAs. This year I’m co-hosting alongside Myra DuBois. Double acts hosting awards have a dubious history. Think Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox or RuPaul and Elton John. But Myra’s been on Channel 5 and I’ve been on BBC Radio 4 so you’re in safe hands. We’ll smile at the winners and laugh at the losers. Especially the ones who’ve dressed up expecting to win. But we do want you to dress up as nowhere screams glamour more then Clapham on a Thursday night. Jimmy and the Brewers do know how to throw a party though. And remember, Sainsbury’s is open until 11pm for the paracetamol you’ll need on Friday morning…”

The Boyz Awards Party is on Thursday 22 February at the Two Brewers,114 Clapham High Street, SW4.

Entry is free before 10pm
