Seven Days

Seven Days: XXL, Boyz Awards, The RVT, Duke of Welly, Halfway and more

XXL Construction

There’s another sweaty night of man-on-man action at XXL this Saturday when the team hosts another of their ever-popular Construction parties from 10pm. Sink a few pints at the bar then hit the dancefloors where music will be coming thick and fast from resident DJs Paul Morrell, Alex Logan, David Robson and Joe Egg. Hold on to your hard hat because it’s going to be a rough ride.

The Boyz Awards 2018

When it comes to awards ceremonies, the Oscars and BAFTAs have nothing on the Boyz Awards. Instead of Jimmy Kimmel or Joanna Lumley hosting, we have the lovely Lola Lasagne and marvellous Myra DuBois. Glittering theatres and world class production there is none; rather our awards take place in one of our LGBT+ venues, the Two Brewers down in Clapham. And instead of overpaid actors and glossy celebs in the audience, we have you lot. Yes, everyone is welcome to come to enjoy a drink and find out who’s won what this Thursday evening. The ceremony begins at 9pm sharp. Dress up, dress down, we don’t care – the Boyz Awards are just a celebration of the great and good of the LGBT+ scene. See you there!

Your weekend at the G&D

Mistress of merriment, The Duchess, welcomes another line up of fab drag acts this weekend down at the George and Dragon in Greenwich. The voice of a thousand fags, Mrs Moore, kicks things off on Thursday evening with the delightful Lola Lasagne hits the stage with comedy and song. In case you missed her, Mrs Moore is back on Saturday night, and on Sunday there’s a trio of trouble in the form of Dave Lynn, Tanya Hyde and Tony Sinclair.

TFITW at the Two Brewers

As we’ve already mentioned once or twice in the pages of this ‘ere mag, this Thursday (22 Feb) sees the illustrious Boyz Awards taking place at the Two Brewers from 8pm (awards from 9pm sharp). On Friday the team welcomes the return of Miss Hope Springs (see p. 10 for more information) as well as BALL starring CK and DJs Demon and Rob Davis. On Saturday Miss Penny joins DJs Demon and Chris Brogan for a night of full-on party vibes, and finally on Sunday the Power of Three this week is Karen Dalton as Nan, Mary Mac and Sandra.

An unholy trinity at The RVT

The last Friday of the month at the RVT always means more pop hits than you can handle from the Push The Button guys. Expect six hours of girl bands, boy bands, pop princesses and loads more from 9pm. On Saturday the Duckie team welcomes Evie Fehilly and Virgin Xtravaganzah to the hallowed stage, and then on Sunday sassy Scottish starlet Mary Mac is on stage at Sunday Social along with music from Liam Chaplin, Simon Le Vans and Sean Sirrs.

Drag galore at Halfway

There are no half measures when it comes star turns at Halfway II Heaven each and every week, and this weekend is no different. On Friday night Tanya Hyde serves up a storm on stage from 10pm, on Saturday that Scottish workhorse Mary Mac takes to the stage from 4pm with Rose Garden at 5pm and The Vixens at 10pm, while Sundays are always songs at CK Sunday with Crystal D’Canter and Kelly Mild.

A favourite of mine, 69

The fab Sheila Simmonds hosts another round of Busy Lady Bingo at the Duke of Wellington on Tuesday 27 February. Expect fun, laughs, prizes and more from 8pm, plus a rather fine crowd too. Entry is free and it’s just 99p to play per person.

Living it up at the Light Lounge

If you’re in the busy West End and are after an oasis of calm and classy cocktails then head to the beautiful Light Lounge, which offers table service and expertly mixed drinks made to order. It’s from the guys at the Ku Group, so you know it’s gonna be a good ’un, and Happy Hour runs from 5pm until 7pm every day offering selected cocktails at 2-for-£10. Bargain!
