An immaculate collection: This week at The RVT

Never ones to rest on their laurels, the Royal Vauxhall Tavern has another jam-packed weekend of parties planned from Thursday when they kick off with a special party celebrating Madonna’s 60th birthday on Madonna’s actual 60th birthday! And our round-up ends with a must for all Murder, She Wrote super-fans. Read on.

Madonna 60

Thursday 16 August, 8pm–2am

Our glorious leader Madonna turns 60 today and to celebrate The RVT is hosting a special one-off party presented by Rhythm of the Night. Expect all the DJs to be playing nothing but Madonna all night long – classics, non-single album tracks and B-sides, remixes, live recordings, demos – you name it, they’ve got it. There’ll be prizes for the best Madonna themed costumes too, so dress to impress! Tickets are £6 in advance or £8 on the door.

When Adam Met Apple

Friday 17 August, 7pm–8.30pm

Critically acclaimed drag super couple Adam All and Apple Derrieres bring to the stage the story of their love affair and the trials of a working relationship in this demanding modern society. Doors 7pm, curtain up 7.30pm.

BeefMince

Friday 17 August, 10pm–4am

Then, later the same night, those naughty boys from BeefMince are back in town with more of the quality dance music they are known for: vocal house with big chunky basslines and even tech-house and electro-house in the later hours.

Duckie

Saturday 18 August, 9pm–2am

Purveyors of old fashioned London honky tonk, Duckie is a queer institution and one of our favourite Saturday nights out. Along with retro pop music galore from DJs The Readers Wifes, this week hostess Amy Lamé will introduce guests Le Fil and Tony Hancock Drag.

Sunday Social with Mary Mac

Sunday 19 August, 3pm–midnight

Sundays were made for Sunday Social and this weekend the team welcome the return of Scottish tartlet Mary Mac to the stage at 5.30pm. Sandwiched between DJs including Liam Chaplin, Simon Le Vans and David Robson, expect Ms Mac to medley her music, surf her crowd and Christ knows what else.

The Big Bingo Show

Monday 20 August, 7pm–midnight

Bingo… In a pub… At night… What more do you need to know? Ok, it’s hosted by bonkers bearded beauty Timberlina with musical interludes and sound effects from Hey Baylen, while prizes include a pile of tat from Poundland plus an actual real-life not-alive Cher doll – ooOOooh! Eyes down from 8.30pm.

Bar Wotever

Tuesday 21 August, 7pm–midnight

Ingo and their team welcome the best LGBT and queer performers to the stage every Tuesday, so expect live music, cabaret, drag, burlesque, spoken words and loads more. There’s an open mic slot too and entry is £7 or £5 concession.

Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote

Wednesday 22 August, 7pm–midnight

Murder, She Wrote super-fan Tim Benzie hosts this exciting whodunnit night featuring games, prizes and audience participation. Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote celebrates all things 80s television mysteries had to offer – contrived scenarios, no DNA evidence, massive hair and has-been guest stars. Booking is essential, however, so please email [email protected] to reserve your space. Be quick though as this event is filling fast already. And yes, they have special permission from NBC Universal Television, before you ask.

The RVT, 372 Kennington Lane,  London, SE11 5HY.
