Treat yourself to the queer beer festival

Bierschenke is London’s only authentic Munich Beerhall and from the end of September until November they will be celebrating Oktoberfest, including a special day for LGBT+ beer lovers on Saturday 22 September. Here’s what you need to know.

Forget the Aussies or the Yanks or even us Brits, no one does beer quite like the Germans – they are serious about the stuff and everything that comes along with it.

If you want to feel that genuine Munich experience then Bierschenke on Bloomfield Street, EC2, is the place for you. It’s London’s only authentic Munich style beerhall and has everything you could want, with an unrivalled selection of German beers, many of which are exclusive to the venue, and home-cooked German food.

Oktoberfest is the biggest Volksfest in the world and the name itself conjures images of smiling folk sitting with people they’ve never met before, as well as good friends, with huge steins of beer, a large German sausage in hand, singing, swaying and having a seriously good time. And now the team at Bierschenke have put aside a special day at the beginning of the festival dedicated to LGBT+ beer lovers. The Queer-Schenke Gay Oktoberfest takes place on Saturday 22 September and we promise it’s loads of fun. You get traditional Oktoberfest decorations, great German beers, traditional Oktoberfest dishes, a DJ, live Oompah music from the incomparable Bavarian Strollers, plus special hosts and surprises laid on just for this campest of days. Everyone is welcome, all LGBT+ people and friends, and if this isn’t an excuse to get out those Lederhosen, we don’t know want is!

Tables can be booked at Bierschenke.co.uk/queerschenke or 0207 100 2500.
