See & Scene: Ku Bar, The RVT, Above The Stag, The Two Brewers and more

Small but perfect it’s Ku Soho!

Those lovely peeps at the Ku Group have something for everyone including Ku Leicester Square with Klub and the Light Lounge, or She Soho the only all female bar in the West End plus of course on Frith Street there’s the small but perfect Ku Soho, or Little Ku as it’s often called. Open seven days a week it’s the ideal stop off for a cheeky tipple while you’re out and about, complete with cool tunes, yummy drinks, those delicious bar boys and their naughty PR pixie Nieko plus it’s now open until 3am every Saturday until Christmas.

There’s loads on at The RVT

Even by their high standards it’s a fantastic weekend at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern. It starts early with the brilliant Butch Please! On Thursday (22 Nov) and on Friday it’s the annual Kate Bush theme party with live performances from Cloudbusting, Rose Garden and more. On Saturday daytime from 1pm it’s the Queer Fayre from the folks at Wotever and Duckie, obviously, in the evening. Musical of Musicals at Above The Stag

Starting this week in the rather lovely Studio Theatre at Above The Stag is the Musical of Musicals. It’s one short story told in five ways in the styles of five different types of musical. It’s a great fun night out and tickets are on sale now at abovethestag.com

Piano Bar at The George and Dragon

There’s always something fun happening at the George and Dragon in Greenwich, The Duchess books the best cabaret acts every weekend, but we can also recommend a visit there on Thursdays for the Piano Bar night. This Thursday (22 Nov) the fabulous Crystal D’Canter will be joining Ian Parker to perform some of her favourite tunes. 

World AIDS Day at G-A-Y Bar 

Next Saturday (1 Dec) is World AIDS Day and if you get a free HIV test at G-A-Y Bar, midday to 8pm, G-A-Y will pay for a gay man or trans person to get HIV tested in Russia, Kazakhstan and Uganda.

Your Brewers weekend

There’s a box of delights to open this weekend down in Clapham starting on Thursday (22 Nov) with the brilliant Danny Beard. Friday night Tia Kofi and Sum Ting Wong present Pineapple Bitch – The Yull Ball, which for Muggles out there means it’s a Harry Potter theme night so get out those wands. On Sunday it’s the Brewers mega World AIDS Day charity spectacular with a host of stars including Charlie Hides, CK, Son of a Tutu, Myra DuBois, Sandra, Baby Rue and many more all supporting Wandsworth Oasis.

Delivering Postcards from London

This Saturday (24 Nov) those crazy party peeps from Will You Be There Darling? are back at The Grand in Clapham for another slice of the best in commercial pop and queer anthems. Panda Pop at Duke of Wellington

Thank pop it’s Friday and we will be heading to the Duke of Wellington where the marvellous Heidi Liscious will be behind the decks for a pop and disco mash-up from 9pm at Panda Pop.

Ready Freddie

The team at Balans Soho are once again bringing us their amazing Flash for Freddie cocktail in support of World AIDS Day. This tribute to Freddie Mercury, is a decidedly decadent vodka-based cocktail with black raspberry liqueur, elderflower and more.  Available at the Soho resturant, it’s £10 each and all proceeds go to GMFA.

Start your weekend with the one and only Sandra this Friday (23 Nov) as she takes to the stage at Halfway II Heaven. Saturday cabaret kicks off at 4pm with showbiz legend Mrs Moore followed by Rose Garden at 5pm, later on it’s The Vixens with DJ Justin Swift and the next day it is of course CK Sunday with Crystal D’Canter, Kelly Mild and guests.

New talent at The Old Ship

This weekend the Old Ship have some amazing acts starting on Saturday (24 Nov) when Flick De Bean and Ava Cardo team up for a special double act, plus Baga Chipz will be celebrating her birthday! On Sunday it’s Drag Idol winner the mighty Tracy Barlow… don’t say we didn’t warn you.

See Topsie at Drag Bingo while you can

Drag Bingo is the weekly session at The Bridge in Clapham, hosted by Topsie Redfern and DJ David ‘Dolly Robson with great prizes including a £50 bar tab. It’s huge fun and if you haven’t been, what the hell is wrong with you? This Thursday (22 Nov) is Topsie’s last for a few weeks as she launches into panto and her evil twin sister Vanity von Glow takes over… so it’s bound to be a brilliant night!

This Friday (23 Nov) if you want a night of quiet reflection then it’s probabaly best to avoid The Yard in Coventry as they have the one woman laugh machine that is the outrageous Fanny Burns live on stage.
