Golden Girls A Musical: Episode 4 at The Two Brewers

The idea of Golden girls A Musical is simple; take the scripts of one the best known and loved TV shows of all time and add some suitable musical numbers. Two Box productions are back at The Two Brewers with the fourth episode of their drag queen, musical tribute to Miami’s finest and it’s safe to say this is the best one yet.

The leads are played here by four of the scene’s best drag stars, with Rose Garden playing Dorothy, complete with that withering look, Tanya Hyde as Blanche, Stephanie Von Clitz is Rose and Mrs Moore is, who else but Sophia. After three previous shows, they are all totally comfortable in these roles and each one brings not only a razor sharp impersonation, but their own comic twists to the show, with Tanya as Blanche stealing every scene she is in. Episode Four is based on the classic Season Two show Isn’t it Romantic, involving Dorothy’s school friend Jean, played by Niall Hemingway, and contains one of the show’s funniest scenes between Dorothy, Sophia and Blanche in the bedroom and our girls handle it brilliantly. The original script is still as sharp as ever and adding some camp songs such as group number, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair, or Blanche singing I Feel Pretty only adds to the fun.Yes it’s a tiny bit rough around the edges, but that’s part of the attraction, it’s also laugh out loud funny and a total joy. Dave Cross
