Recon Fetish Cabaret is back at The RVT

This coming Wednesday (27 Mar) the team from Recon are back at the Boyz Award-winning Royal Vauxhall Tavern for their next Fetish Cabaret special. Hosted by Baby Lame this extraordinary event will be packed with brilliant performers of every kind, and everyone is welcome. Dave Cross spoke to Matt Skully from Recon to find out more.

Hi Matt, for those who haven’t been yet, what’s the idea behind Recon Fetish Cabaret?

A huge part of the fetish community is the social element. Lots of guys like to gear up and meet up with other kinksters to socialise and hang out, so It’s great to have a diverse range of events that cater for everyone. We started the fetish cabaret last year as well as a comedy night, both of which were well attended, so we decided to do more this year. We like to mix things up, and having more fetish based social events at places like The Royal Vauxhall Tavern means people get to meet each other in a more casual environment. Anyone who is perhaps getting into fetish and looking to explore and meet other fetishists can do so in an environment which is less full on as one of our larger play events. The cabaret is also a really fun thing to put together, London really has some great queer artists and performers and It’s wonderful to be able to showcase some of the more risqué ones.

And this is something that anyone and everyone is welcome to come to and is there a dresscode?

One of the great things about cabaret and fetish is that diversity is welcomed. Social events like a cabaret at The RVT, a venue that really does celebrate and showcase diversity in all its forms means anyone and everyone is welcome to attend. People are very welcome to gear up; latex, leather, sports, uniforms, skinhead – all fetishes are welcome, however civilian clothing is fine too.

How have the first couple gone?

The first cabaret we did was back in August and was amazing, it was a really great night to put together, and really well received. We were offered a few more dates so decided to do a fetish comedy night towards the end of last year and have had people ask us when the next ones were going to be, so we have three dates for this year.  We have previously held events at The RVT, such as our Fetish Week pup event; Unleashed and a few years ago, our bondage masterclass. The RVT really is a great venue, and a real gem for the LGBTQ+ community  so having opportunities to go back and host nights there is always welcomed.

Can you talk us through who is performing next Wednesday?

Baby Lame, who has hosted out previous cabaret and comedy night will be back to host, so expect dark comedy and bad taste from the start.

We’ll have three performers all with a fetish twist, including International multi award winning burlesque and sideshow performer Lou Safire. Not one to shy away from the heat, Lou’s fire performances and lust for the darker side of vaudeville brings a unique take on traditional freak show stunts. We’ll also have the fierce, feisty and fabulous Smashlyn Monroe, who will be bringing their own unique performances combining military, fetish and an insight to what happens at home when the husband’s away.  There will also be performances from model and performer Sadiq Ali, who you may recognise from our Fetish Week London 2017 shoot. Sadiq has previously represented the UK at Mr Gay World in Malta. His solo acts combine circus, theatre and dance, and he will be bringing his pole skills set to The RVT.

What else is coming up from Recon?

Team Recon will be heading to Manchester in April for MRMX and hosting the Friday Party as well as Le Depot Paris for our first of two Recon Paris events this year. Recon London will be back at Fire, Vauxhall on Friday 24 May for the big bank holiday party. We travel quite a bit so it’s worth checking out the schedule.

And what about Fetish Week London?

Fetish Week London will be celebrating its 10th anniversary from 7 – 14 July, bringing all the sleaze you’d expect, and new surprises to make sure we celebrate in style. Fetish Week London is a great opportunity for fetish men from around the world to meet, socialise and play. Our aim is to make each Fetish Week London bigger and better than the last, and that’ll be no different in 2019! Seeing the events evolve and grow over the years has been amazing, and whether you are a fetish pro or have never been to an event, there is something for everyone. Our official guides to Fetish Week are coming soon, and check out fetishweek.com for all the listings. You can also get a taste of what to expect by checking out some of the galleries and the video from FWL2018 on Recon.com and the Recon YouTube channel.
