The gang at Klub downstairs at Ku Leicester Square on Lisle Street have an exciting new Thursday night party for us. #ThrowbackThursday will feature two DJs playing back to back with a mix of old school songs from the 60s right up to current pop and chart music. Special offers on the night include 2-4-1 on Proud beer and Ruby’s cider as well as £5 concession entrance for anyone with a valid NUS card, to help students have a good time on a budget. Not to mention a super hot shot boy selling… shots, of course.
The Two Brewers line-up
This weekend there’s loads on offer down in Clapham at The Two Brewers. On Thursday (9 May) in the Club Bar from 7.30pm it’s Busty and Ginger’s Double Trouble when the Pride’s Got Talent cabaret winners are joined by a rather gorgeous selection of guests including Dolly Trolley, Cynthia Seward, Oedipussi Rex, Sigi Moonlight, Flick De’Bean and Soroya Marchelle, while in the Cabaret Bar it’s Miss Jason at 11.30pm. Friday we get cabaret from Son of a Tutu and on Saturday the hilarious Charlie Hides, whilst Sunday (12 May) is The Power of Three with Jason, Tanya Hyde and Sandra.
An RVT smorgasbord
Stand by for action, the team at the Boyz Award-winning Royal Vauxhall Tavern have a delicious spread of events on offer this weekend. It starts on Thursday (9 May) with heat three of Drag Idol hosted by Son of a Tutu and on Friday you get two treats with a screening of In Bed With Madonna at 7pm followed at 10pm, appropriately by Trashy Queen. Saturday is all about Duckie, starting early at 6.30pm with a talk and Q&A by Ben Walters called Dr Duckie followed by the club night. On Sunday your Queen of Cabaret is the marvellous Mary Mac and don’t forget the Big Bingo Show on Monday and Bar Wotever on Tuesday. Very tasty!
Indulge at Halfway
Brace yourselves kids, it’s another amazing weekend at Halfway II Heaven. Friday (11 May) starts with a screening of RuPaul’s Drag Race followed by Boyz Award-winners The Vixens. Saturdays will be as bonkers as ever with Mrs Moore, Rose Garden and The Vixens with DJ Justin Swift bringing it home. Sunday, belongs as always to CK aka Crystal and Kelly, while Monday (13 May) is Boudicca The Queen and guests and Tuesday is Drag Idol hosted by Myra DuBois.
Cabaret at CMYK
There’s a cool new LGBT+ kid on the block down south in Wimbledon. CMYK is the exciting and rather stylish new venue next door to the theatre that’s open seven days a week. There’s always fun stuff and a great mixed crowd and this weekend they have Willma Ballsdrop on Friday (11 May), and the excellent Marsha Mallow on Saturday.
Boom Bang-A-Bang at ATS
Eurovision is fast approaching and just in time the team at Above The Stag are staging a revival of the Jonathan Harvey classic Eurovision comedy Boom Bang-A-Bang. It is set in 1995 at a gay Eurovision party and is on until 9 June. Tickets at abovethestag.com
Drag Idol update
Drag Idol 2019 is in full swing across the country right now with 18 cabaret venues holding heats to find their venue champion. In London Halfway II Heaven, Admiral Duncan, The Old Ship and Victoria have joined The Two Brewers, RVT and Central Station in the search for new cabaret talent plus LGBT+ venues in England and Wales. It’s Christmas with Myra
Cabaret chanteuse, TV star and showbiz legend Myra DuBois has never been one to follow pesky rules and conventions and from Tuesday 28 May she will be celebrating Christmas in a week of shows at The Soho Theatre. Testament at The Hope
Testament by Sam Edmunds is at The Hope Theatre from Tuesday (14 May) until 1 June. It’s the story of Max who is trying to make sense of his life after losing his girlfriend in a car crash with the help of his brother and a series of apparitions of modernised biblical characters. Polari at Heaven
Next Wednesday (15 May) Polari, the award-winning LGBT+ literary salon comes to Heaven for a special event to mark 40 years of the legendary club. Curated and hosted by author Paul Burston, special guests will include writers and performers Neil Bartlett and Alexis Gregory, poet Paula Varjack, Adele Anderson from Fascinating Aida and Barbara and the Brownshirts. 2oth anniversary of the Admiral Duncan bomb attack on 30th April
Last Tuesday (30 April) hundreds of people came together in Old Compton Street to mark the 20th anniversary of the nail bomb attack on the Admiral Duncan. The Attack in 1999 followed similar terror attacks in Brixton and Brick lane targeting other minority groups. The vigil last week included a minute’s silence at the time of the attack and a service at St Anne’s Church.
