Your guide to Fetish Week London: Saturday 6 – Sunday 14 July

Next weekend is not only Pride, it’s also the start of the 10th annual Fetish Week London from the team at Recon. Eight days packed with every kind of fetish and kink event you can imagine from massive club nights to screenings and much more. Guys of all kinds from all over the world will be in London for these events, so Dave Cross spoke to Matt Skully from Recon to find out all you need to know.

In basic terms what is Fetish Week London?

Fetish Week London is a series of fetish events that runs from 6th until 14th July in London. This year is our 10th anniversary so it’s going to be even bigger, with more surprises and even a new event. It’s the sleaziest week of the year, attracting fetish guys from all around the world turning London into a kinky playground.

If we’ve never been to any kind of fetish event before, but love the thought of it, what events would you recommend during the week?

Well it depends if you want to dive right into the full experience or ease yourself in. The start of the week is more focused on the social side, the screening event will show classic 1980s film Cruising staring Al Pachino, and the Masterclass is a great opportunity to learn about different BDSM practices from experts. As well as demonstrations on rope bondage, flogging and using a whip, there will be workshops showing you how to put some of these into practice. If you want to pup out, Unleashed, the pup and handler social at The RVT, is on Wednesday, with music from Pup Sada. Later in the week there’s Spit Roast, the Sunday brunch for fetish guys, it’s the perfect hangover cure to the Full Fetish event on Saturday.

Some events have a strict dress code, can you talk us through what that means and give newbies some advice?

At all of the social events, gear is optional but encouraged. Our bigger play events do have a fetish dress code: rubber, sports, Lycra, skinhead, leather and uniforms. If you’re a newbie and unsure, there is a more information on the Fetish Week London website and you can have a look at some of last years videos to get an idea of what to expect. Sports gear, jocks and a harness are all an easy way to ease yourself in, and if you want to try rubber, I recommend using a bit of silicone lube to get into it and shine it up.

Is there something especially for guys into sports gear?

Sports Cruise on Thursday 11 July is when things really heat up, it’s the first play party of the week, so come and work up a sweat with the men of your locker room fantasies. This is one I always recommend for guys looking to get into the fetish scene, and gives you a small taste of what to expect at our event bigger event, Full Fetish, on Saturday. Dress code for Sports Cruise is sports, Lycra, football kits, trainers and jocks etc.

If we want to dive straight in the deep end, as it were, what are the most full on events?

Sports Cruise, Rubber Gear and of course Full Fetish are the ones where people like to come out to play and party. Our closing party Deconstruction is another one people like to attend as a final hurrah to the week. The larger parties are lots of fun, but also very social too.

Can you tell us a bit about the special shopping/retail offers etc that happen during Fetish Week London?

Tickets can be brought online or in selected shops around London – lots of shops will have offers on so it’s worth checking on the Fetish Week website to see. Our brand new event, Kink Ride, a fetish bus tour around London, will be setting off from Fetch in Clapham and finishing at Gear London in Shoreditch, so there will be lots of opportunity for guys to get some gear or last minute essentials before the big event.

And tell us about the massive Full Fetish event?

Full Fetish is the main event of Fetish Week London and what the week builds to. We’ll be taking over the arches of Great Suffolk Street Warehouse, creating large play spaces including a cruise maze, darkroom, sling area, bondage and BDSM play space, wet area, pup play area and large dance area. VIPs will have access to the VIP room, which has its own bar, cloak room, token stand and toilets. There will be token-only bars inside and outside and places for people to buy tokens inside, so bring cash. Prowler Red will have a pop up shop selling poppers, cock rings and anything else you might need to get throughout the night. Full Fetish is not only the main event of FWL2019, it’s the biggest event we put in all year, so definitely one not to be missed.
