Last Saturday, after a triumphant parade through the town centre, revellers descended on Wandle Park to celebrate this year’s Croydon Pridefest.
The crowd heard speeches by Mark Watson, founder and trustee of Croydon Pride, Council Leader Tony Newman, Councillor Hamida Ali and other dignitaries. The main stage was hosted by Son of a Tutu, Danny Beard, both of whom also performed and Asifa Lahore, who made a dramatic entrance wearing a rainbow burqa- Niqab, inspiring to see a wonderful political point made with elegance and refinement, pure class. There was sensational cabaret from Soju, Lady Leshurr. Abbalicious Kelly Wilde, and a blazing set from Kym Mazelle. The headliner was David McAlmont featuring Janette Mason in a set that kept the electric and vibrant atmosphere until the close. The day also included Rainbows Across Borders, London Mozart Players, Silvastone, Graver Enow, Mee & the Band, a Brit School showcase and Bugeye plus DJ sets from Big John, TrYb and DJ Ritu curated by Batty Mama. All tastes were catered for and the firm message that Croydon Pridefest is committed to showcase diversity and for it to remain a free and inclusive event was delivered loud and clear. well done to all involved, see you in 2020.
