Me, Myself and I: Paul McAvoy from HolyT Events

Paul is the driving force behind HolyT Events, the production company bringing amazing RuPaul’s Drag Race events and stars to the UK including the Heels of Hell Halloween tour and Miz Cracker at the London Palladium. He loves Harry Potter, Russell T Davis and the Cock Destroyers.

Where are you from originally?

Peterborough.

And where do you live now?

Manchester is home!

Where is your favourite place or places to spend a day in London?

My ideal day in London would be seeing a show in the West End followed by a night out at The Two Brewers.

How would you describe the Heels of Hell Halloween show?

Heels of Hell is our biggest tour of the year and the biggest Halloween tour in the world. This year we’ll be taking the show to 14 cities. I’ve always loved dressing up, so Halloween has always been a favourite holiday of mine. The girls pull out all of the stops every year and it’s always a really special show for the fans.

What can you tell us about Miz Cracker’s show at The London Palladium in February?

We booked this show at the Palladium to celebrate six years of Holy Tranity after the success of her tour earlier this year. Cracker will be the first Ru-Girl to grace the stage of this iconic venue and we can’t wait. The show is called American Woman and it celebrates women in a time where feminism is more important than ever.

What was the last film you watched and what did you think of it?

I don’t get much time to go to the cinema with touring so much, but the last film I saw was Bohemian Rhapsody. I thought it was amazing!

Last play or musical in a theatre you saw and what did you think of it?

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – there was no way I was going to miss Bianca Del Rio. I love the musical regardless, but I thought she was brilliant in it.

What is your guilty pleasure and why?

I’m a big fan of my soaps. There’s nothing better than catching up on them all at the end of a tour.

What is your favourite book of all time?

You can’t beat a childhood classic. It has to be Harry Potter.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and why?

I’m extremely proud of how far me and my team have come, but more so than anything it has to be the work we have done for raising funds for charity. Last year during Heels of Hell we raised over £4,000 for a charity dear to my heart, Mermaids UK. I also run an annual charity weekend in Manchester called Village People Weekend. This year was our biggest yet and we raised over £7,000 in that weekend alone!

Can you pick four people, alive or dead, to invite to a dinner party?

Robbie Williams, Dame Edna, Kylie and Whitney.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to and what made it so good?

It’s hard to pick a specific one but Poptastic have had some legendary birthday parties. One time they even had Boy George.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

If you have passion, believe in yourself.

Who is your LGBT+ hero and why?

Russell T Davies, the creator of Queer As Folk. It was iconic, and as a young gay man, the power of seeing a show like that on TV was unforgettable.

Who are the most entertaining people you follow on social media and why?

Jasmine Masters and the Cock Destroyers. Cher’s Twitter feed is always golden.

Where is your favourite place in the whole world?

LA! If I was to live anywhere in the world other than Manchester, that would be it.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

To not get too down about what other people think of you. As RuPaul says, ‘unless they’re paying your bills, pay those bitches no mind.’
