Brighton Pride is here

This weekend it’s time to pack your bucket and spade, skimpiest outfit and biodegradable glitter, practise your best Kylie routines and head to Brighton. You almost certainly don’t need a bucket and spade, but everything else is a tick! Yep it’s here, Brighton Pride 2019, kicking off with the community parade and including Party in the Park, yes with Kylie on Saturday and Grace and Jessie on Sunday, plus everything else we love – see you at the Legends Cabaret tent! There’s literally something for all LGBTQ+ people and allies, either in Preston Park or at the Pleasure Gardens or one of the many official after parties, there’s a whole gorgeous, delicious buffet of camp on offer. You can get tickets and details including travel at brighton-pride.org

Quizzing and Volcanos at The RVT

Quizes and a volcano… just your average, out of the ordinary week ahead at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern. Thursday (1 Aug) is The Big Q vs The Big C, a fundraising pub quiz with added camp from Chamonix Aspen and Dusty Limits collecting cash for both Cancer is a Drag and Cabaret vs Cancer. Friday night it’s those crazy muthas The LipSinkers and on Saturday night it’s the daddies of clubbing, Duckie. Sunday Social promises us tartan fun and a fresh and fragrant haggis from Mary Mac. Monday is Big Bingo, Tuesday Bar Wotever and on Wednesday (7 Aug) It’s Bitten Peach,  the Pan-Asian Performance night featuring a stellar lineup of the UK’s legendary queens, kings and creatures of the Far East. On Thursday prepare for some serious heat as it’s Volcano. The freaks and geeks from Haus of Royalz are back with this molten new show full of fire and steam… aka a host of amazing cabaret acts. Ruggercub Summer Scrum at The Two Brewers

It’s the summer, so no matter what the bat shit crazy weather is doing there will be a host of gay rugby players in shorts at The Two Brewers this Friday (2 Aug). This is not just a Boyz Towers fantasy (although it is) it’s the Kings Cross Steelers and their monthly Brewers bash, Ruggercub complete with a Summer Scrum-down theme, a best and worst swimwear contest, cabaret from Danny Beard and much more. Saturday night the cabaret comes from Mary Mac and on Sunday The Vivianne joins Miss Penny, Mary and Sandra for the Power of Four. Wahoo!

Making Porn at Above The Stag

Just to be clear, the team at the UK’s only full time LGBT+ theatre, Above The Stag are not actually filming gay porn at the Vauxhall venue… Making Porn is the name of the latest camp comedy from playwright Ronnie Larsen and director Andrew Beckett that opens this week in the Studio space. Inspired by the American gay porn scene of the 1980s this is a laugh-out loud comedy packed with tight one-liners and laugh-out-loud gags. Tickets for all shows at abovethestag.com

Check out Little Ku

We all love the mothership Ku Bar on Lisle Street by Leicester Square, complete with Klub downstairs, Light Lounge upstairs and enough hot boys to sink a battleship, but don’t forget the cheeky, sexy Little Ku on Frith Street in Soho. Little Ku is small, but perfectly formed and comes complete with a classy drinks menu, Happy Hour deals, cool tunes and did we mention the super cute bar boys?

Bingo and quiz at the Duke of Welly

Each weekend The Duke of Wellington is fit to bursting with bears, blokes and their friends loving the cold beers and hot tunes. During the week they also offer some fun nights including every Tuesday it’s Busy Lady Bingo with Aussie shopping guru and star of Britain’s Got Talent, Sheila Simmonds and on Wednesdays it’s the Big Quiz hosted by Martha D’Arthur and Topsie Redfern on rotation.

The Geminus at Camden Fringe

The Geminus is an intense, suspenseful and empowering story of adventure and self-discovery on the high seas. Opening on Tuesday 13 August for five days as part of the Camden Fringe at The Tristan Bates Theatre, this play written by Ross Dinwiddy, is a reimagining of Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Sharer. In this story of a different heart of darkness from Conrad, themes of love, trust, isolation and sexuality collide in an unsettling, yet poignant romance. Tickets via bluedeviltheatre.co.uk

XXL Retrospective

Saturday nights were made for flirting with bears… This Saturday (3 Aug) it’s also made for dancing, because it’s XXL Retrospective when DJ Hutch joins those awesome residents to mix in a few classic floor-fillers with today’s bangers. Bears, blokes, hunks, hotties and some classic TUNES… sounds like a plan.

Rupert Street gets late

Good news everyone! Those lovely and, we can’t help noticing really rather dishy chaps at Rupert Street have more of everything for us this August. Every Saturday this month (there’s five BTW) the Soho hot spot will be open extra late and, as if that wasn’t cool enough, every Saturday you get a DJ set from the legend that is Tasty Tim. Amazeballs.

Drag Idol winner Karla at The Old Ship

There’s two really rather fabulous acts on this weekend at The Old Ship. On Saturday (3 Aug) it’s this year’s Drag Idol winner the fantastic Karla Bear and on Sunday, the little queen with the huge voice, Chanel No5. Marvellous.

Halfway’s weekend

There’s some special guests this weekend at the glittering cabaret bunker that is Halfway II Heaven. Friday (2 Aug) is in safe hands as The Vixens are still in town for a special show, but on Saturday with some of their residents in a south coast clinic for a nip and tuck, no matter what they tell you… the fun starts at 4pm with the brilliant Shania Pain and then at 7pm it’s the refined and sophisticated Baga Chipz, followed at 10pm by a Saturday show from The Vixens with DJ Justin Swift. Sunday this week is given over to Miss Penny and friends and on Monday it’s Marsha Mallow and Tuesday, stand by… it’s Bette Rinse.

Circa The Club Boat Party

If you’re feeling the lure of the sea, and the need to shout ‘Hello sailor’ to a bunch of hot boys, then we have amazing news as the gang from Circa The Club are setting sail on the August Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday 24 August, Alan, Nieko and the whole crew will be boarding a boat from Embankment Pier (opposite The Club), with dancefloors, two bars, a BBQ on the outside terrace, and music from Jonathan Bestley, Sam Londt and James Lee Dawkins. Kicking off at 6pm you get to sail past all the iconic river sights and end up back at Circa The Club where the party continues.
