Me, Myself and I: Ruby White from Shut Up and Kiss Me

Ruby White makes stunning drag shoes for her company Shut Up and Kiss Me. She believes in enjoying life and would invite Kate Bush and Carrie Fisher to dinner.

Where are you from originally?

I’m from Bristol.

And where do you live now?

Bexleyheath with my hubby and two fur babies.

Where is your favourite place or places to spend a day in London?

In my garden enjoying a glass of fizz with my hubby listening to Johnny Cash in my egg chair.

How would you describe Shut Up and Kiss Me Heels ?

My designs are about having fun and not taking life too seriously.

What can you tell us about the shoes you make?

When I first started to make drag heels I did some research and was surprised how hard it is to find heels size 9 and up that aren’t boring. Even for the ladies out there most women’s shoe shops only go up to a size 8. I like working with my clients in the design process – it’s exciting because they are personalised and unique.

What was the last film you watched, and what did you think of it?

I watched Us last week. I like horror movies and this is a great film.

Last play or musical in a theatre you saw and what did you think of it?

I saw Martin Shaw in Twelve Angry Men. Fantastic play that makes you think.

What is your guilty pleasure and why?

Chocolate and anything really that’s not good for you. Life’s too short not to shove an extra donut in!

What is your favourite book of all time?

I like Lady Killer by Martina Cole.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and why?

I used to sing and without a doubt performing at Cardiff Pride is something I’ll never forget.

Can you pick four people, alive or dead to invite to a dinner party?

Tricky question! OK, Kate Bush because I grew up listening to her, she lived in Bexleyheath and she’s a bit bonkers. My husband has introduced me to football and I support Liverpool so Jürgen Klopp would be invited. Some dead people now… Janis Joplin as she’s a complete legend. Carrie Fisher – how cool would it be having dinner with Princess Leia and she was an inspirational person to me.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to and what made it so good?

My mum will be reading this so it’s best I don’t go in to that.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

My husband says life is too short for regrets; it’s done now and you can’t change it.

Who is your LGBT+ hero and why?

Sorry to be predictable but it’s Kylie. She is my queen and she made me want to sing.

Who are the most entertaining people you follow on social media and why?

I’m not really a big social media person but I do like checking in on Katie Price – bless her, she’s a walking car crash.

Where is your favourite place in the whole world?

That’s difficult – either Venice, where I spent my honeymoon, or Munich, which I have fallen in love with.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

Don’t worry about what people think – they are just as confused as you!
