See & Scene: It’s a Knockout, The RVT, Two Brewers, Ku, XXL and more

It’s a Knockout is back

It’s a Knockout at Halfway II Heaven is the cabaret talent contest like no other in the UK. Hosted by Bette Rinse and starting this Tuesday (10 Sep) at the Charing Cross cabaret hot spot, it features six exciting new drag acts who ate set a series of tasks and themes each week, and each week an act is send home, until we are left with a champion. Previous winners have included, Poppycock, Felix Le Freak, Ripley and Chamonix Aspen and it’s always a brilliant and fun competition, on every Tuesday from now into October, come down and decide who’s team you are on.

LADS are back at The RVT

This Thursday (5 Sep) those gorgeous girls from LADS are back at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, Lolo Brow, Lilly Snatchdragon and Scarlett O’Hora and guests are there for another sensational night of female cabaret and performance, where everybody is welcome. Friday there’s more cabaret and clubbing crazy from the LipSinkers and on Saturday, it’s the all powerful Duckie. At Sunday Social, lock up the Iron Bru as the small but mighty Mary Mac is back in town and don’t forget it’s The Big Bingo Show every Monday and the gorgeous Bar Wotever every Tuesday.

XXL Military

Who doesn’t love a man in uniform, I mean seriously? This Saturday it will be privates on parade and ‘hello sailor at Pulse for XXL Military.  Not only will the venue be packed out with bears and blokes in uniform, but there’s major tuneage when Moto Blanco goes head to head with DJ Hutch plus residents Paul Morrell, Alex Logan, Joe Egg and David Robson.

All kinds of love at The Two Brewers

There’s something for everyone at The Two Brewers in Clapham including the amazing Space Age Love Songs, which is open now for the next two weeks in the Club Bar at 8pm. It’s a futuristic musical that celebrates the music and films of the 1980s. Also this week we get Myra DuBois on Thursday (5 Sep) and on Friday it’s Ruggercub, Back 2 School with those naughty boys the Kings Cross Steelers and special guest Mary Golds. On Saturday it’s the really rather splendid Poppycock and on Sunday the ‘classic’ Power of Four line up of Myra DuBois, Miss Jason, Mary Mac and Sandra.

Chill-out at Ku

Even though summer is wanning, we all still need somewhere to chill out after work or at the weekend and those clever bunnies at the Ku Group have five amazing venues on offer. At Ku Leicester Square on Lisle Street not only do you get the main ‘mothership’ bar but downstairs is Klub, open late every night, but also above it is the cool and stylish Light Lounge with cocktails a-plenty. Over on Frith Street there’s Little Ku, small, but perfectly formed and next door and underneath is the lush She Soho. Plus, the Boyz award-winning host and PR prince, Stefanos told us they are working on some exciting ideas for the autumn, you heard it hear first.

Bingo and quiz at The Welly

We all know that weekends at The Duke of Wellington are huge fun, but did you know they also have amazing nights midweek as well? Yep, each Tuesday is Busy Lady Bingo, hosted by Aussie shopping superstar and BGT star, Sheila Simmonds and on Wednesdays it’s weekly pub quiz, Didn’t They Do Welly, hosted by either Martha D’Arthur or Topsie Redfern. Gorgeous.

The weekend at Circa The Club

We love Circa The Club, with its state of the art sound and lights, and hotter than hot crowds. This weekend you get Friday Vibes complete with amazing Djs and outrageous performers twisting up the gender politics and on Saturday (7 Sep) it’s Lucky You, their joint party with one-woman global brand, Jodie Harsh.

Mary and Sophie at The Old Ship

There’s two yummy bites of the cabaret cake this weekend at The Old Ship in Limehouse. On Saturday the flavour is haggis and Iron Bru as the pint sized tartan tart, Mary Mac takes to the stage and on Sunday the flavour is definitely game, as it’s Saucy Sophie on offer.

Now and Then at Above The Stag

Now and Then is the musical by Ronnie Larsen opening this Wednesday (11 Sep) at Above The Stag. It tells the story of a gay couple through four decades and features some gorgeous original songs. Get tickets for this and all other shows at the Vauxhall theatre via abovethestag.com

London Hotel in Southampton

There’s loads on offer at the rather wonderful London Hotel in Southampton including big name cabaret stars, this week you get Martha D’Arthur on Thursday (5 Sep), Drag with No Name on Friday and on Sunday none other than Mrs Moore. There’s also karaoke and top DJs, including Claire Fuller this Saturday, plus they do a delicious Sunday lunch as well. Hoorah.

Party at The White Swan

If you want some fun with a crowd of East End lads, then head to The White Swan in Limehouse where every Friday and Saturday it’s party night. Fridays are the fab DJ Aaran Bader and on Saturdays it’s Kamp Klub with Miss Prince on the decks.

Show tunes at Ye Olde Rose & Crown

It maybe a cliché that us gays love a show tune or seven, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. Every Tuesday down in Greenwich at Ye Olde Rose & Crown they brush up their sing-along muscles for a fun night of musicals. Show Tune Tuesdays feature all your favourites from The King and I to Six (see what we did there) and everything in-between.
