Buffy: Once More with Feeling Live at The Two Brewers – review

Once More With Feeling is the musical episode of the groundbreaking and much loved TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It holds a special place not only in the hearts of the legions of Buffy fans, but as a landmark moment in modern TV and is the perfect source material for the Boyz Award-winning Two Box Productions.

Their version, performed over Halloween in the Club Bar at The Two Brewers is basically a screening of the original TV episode, the dialogue being left to the TV cast, while all the musical numbers are sung live by the talented Two Box team. Leading the cast is Sara Lynam as Buffy, giving us a convincing Slayer and some amazing vocals and moves! Two Box regulars, Rachael Blaney as Anya and Niall Hemingway as Sweet are as impressive as always, Rich Watkins is suitably demonic as Spike and there’s a scene stealing performance by Tia Kofi as everyone’s least favourite teen brat, Dawn. Stand out numbers include Anya and Zander’s (Alan Hunter) camp duet I’ll Never Tell and the rousing Walk Through The Fire, which had the whole audience singing along.

This is more than just a sing-along screening of the TV episode, the live cast add their own moments of humour and character and as with all Two Box productions, this was performed with real heart and a genuine love for the show, if you loved Buffy, then this is the show for you. There were a few times we couldn’t really hear the live vocals, but the crowd at the Brewers clearly loved every minute and honestly so did we. As we go to press theres talk of adding more dates, and we hope they do.
