RuPaul’s DragCon UK 2020 at Olympia

Thousands of fans descended on the first ever RuPaul’s DragCon UK in January at London’s Olympia in Kensington.

Drag Race host and Emmy Award-winner RuPaul ceremoniously cut the pink ribbon, surrounded by Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and drag stars including The Vivienne, Baga Chipz, Bob The Drag Queen, Blu Hydrangea and Trinity the Tuck. The weekend extravaganza, created by RuPaul and World of Wonder Productions, included the infamous Queens Walk, which saw visitors cheer on the arrival of the Queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race, who made their grand entrance by strutting down the pink carpet at Olympia.

RuPaul said: “DragCon has always been a safe space where people can discover and bring to life their true and unique-self and I am honoured to have hosted this in the UK for this first time.” Amongst the other celebrity names were Alexis Mateo, Asia O’Hara, Bianca Del Rio, Blair St Clair, Charlie Hides, Cheryl Hole, Crystal, Derrick Barry, Divina De Campo, Gothy Kendoll, India Ferrah, Jujubee, Laila McQueen, Mariah Balenciaga, Mayhem Miller, Miz Cracker, Monét X Change, Morgan McMichaels, Mrs Kasha Davis, Ongina, Shea Couleé, Sum Ting Wong, The Vivienne, Vinegar Strokes and World of Wonder co-founder and DragCon creator Fenton Bailey. On both Saturday and Sunday RuPaul took to the decks to DJ a midday dance party on the Main Stage for all visitors and attendees.

World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey said: “We announced and previewed two new original shows, ‘Untitled Trinity the Tuck Project’ and ‘God Shave The Queens’ to our expanding catalogue on WOW Presents Plus and we will continue to bring thought-provoking and original content to the platform. We are thankful to everyone involved and can’t wait to see everyone in the future.”
