Station House Hotel, Haslemere: Review by Stephen Vowles

As part or a new series Stephen Vowles puts a spotlight on suggested places to go and stay for a ‘home from home’ experience.

Whether you drive or take the train out of Waterloo, Haslemere in Surrey is just 75 minutes way and right in the heart of the town, opposite the train station, is the Station House Hotel. Opened in 2016 by the Upham Pub Company as a new venture, this well appointed hotel with an emphasis on tradition is a delight.

Open log burning fires, spacious bar and lounge areas including a very well laid out roof  terrace made for a very comfortable stay and opting for a premiere room with a glorious walk in shower, room for two, and a fabulous king size bed and a private outside patio area, created a space for contemplation and relaxation. Large TV, coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing  board are all provided. My only criticism would be no fridge and mini bar in the room.

A nice quirky touch, the brasserie style restaurant located in the original Victorian part of the building is designed like a dining car on a Pullman train and is an ideal place to dine with family and friends.

The food is exceptional with freshness and good quality high on the agenda with top quality ingredients source locally. With a tapas bar on the first floor also on offer during the warmer months, again this is a place to ponder your thoughts and watch the world go past – and with very attentive staff showing a pleasant demeanour, our stay was complete.

Wireless internet access is available free of charge and the hotel’s management have a firm grasp of their carbon footprint. The hotel is totally fit for purpose and makes for an all round destination. Cosy and quaint. Check out their website and social media pages for upcoming events and special promotional events.

The Station House Hotel can be found at Lower Street, Haslemere GU 27  2PD. Tel: 01428  776 560 stationhousehaslemere.co.uk
