Robert Wilson started FOMO Models management company three years ago. FOMO stands for “fear of missing out”. Robert told us more about the story of his agency and its particular focus on black and mixed race models.
FOMO Models was created by Robert Wilson three years ago and stands for “fear of missing out” as a response to the fashion industy’s desperate desire to find the freshest new face models to advertise global campaigns.
Starting out as a scout, Robert travelled the world and discovered models that went on to feature in advertising for Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry, D’Squared, Dolce Gabbana, Versace and Gucci.
After what some would call an overnight success, Robert then started FOMO Models, a management company developing the careers of models and building their Instagram following in order to enlarge their appeal to fashion brands.
FOMO also looks after the careers of Instagram’s biggest social influencers, and has cast many contestants on ITV’s smash hit show Love Island.
That said, FOMO Models is most famous for representing the hottest models in the fashion industry. Robert says “I wouldn’t represent a model, I don’t think is attractive”.
FOMO is also the most racially diverse agency in the UK, with 95% of its board being black and mixed race. “Black models matter, they are far more in demand than the white models I represent,” says Robert.
“There is a lot of snobbery in fashion, and I have had to fight may way to the top. When people call FOMO “the Boohoo of model agencies” because we are fast paced and fearless it makes me proud, but what really makes me happy is seeing kids I discover go from digging roads to buying houses with money made from modelling in a Gucci campaign.”
