Sometimes you just have to stand up, cheer and applaud loudly as a true cause for celebration is realised and this was clearly the case last night as Miss Hope Springs took to the stage at the very chic and fashionable The Crazy Coqs to showcase a ten year run – a “Dix Ans au Crazy Coqs” – and the crowd full of friends and adoring fans just lapped it up.
Springs is a class act and the deliberate fluffing of lines and the self-correction in the delivery of her banter and patter is just solid entertainment gold.
We were taken on a magical musical journey that presented highlights from all the previous shows and it just proved what a clever lyricist and composer Ty is and clearly puts him in the same company as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Noel Coward and Ivor Novello.
Springs is a born entertainer. A true cabaret dame and the rapturous reception was well deserved as he sat in front of his piano and tickled the ivories. Springs knows how to work a room and even dropping in a few gags about Putin made him topical and extremely funny. Springs also went from swing up beat to a more slow delivery of a stunning set of songs that were clearly very important to him.
The build up to the finale and his delivery of his very witty song and showstopper “The Devil Made Me Do It” was so on point and just proved one simple and single truth that Miss Hope Springs – Mr Ty Jeffries – is full of the joie de vivre. An exuberant, ecstatic evening of ooh la la!! Perfect – to end the review it’s got a nice zing to it and is a rather fab word – and delivered with panache.
